How do you get artillery ships?

Playing as Rome, I have the 3rd level shipwright whatever it's called, and supposedly the 4th level only gets me tower hexireme triarii. I see nowhere how to get the onboard onagers. Help?

sry if im misunderstanding r u asking how to recruit ships? just go to the town where ur shipwright is and like how u recruit an agent or general recruit an admiral then click on ur admiral and presto there should be onager ships

I have an Admiral, and several firepot legionary ships and scorpion ships, but onager ships haven't become an option for me yet and my question is in the title, "How do you get onager ships?"

Has to be a city doesnt it, I make em at carthage ( Im rome ) I dont remember any itialian port having hte option to upgrade to that tier docks, so im assuming its gota be a city that has got 6 buildings unlocked?

Theres a 2nd type of military port available in coastal province capitals.

perhaps u havent researched enough siege tech, u dint say u had ballista ships either, im sry im in the middle of a battle ill check if u cant find out later

You need the drydock. It's pretty much dedicated to building the siege ships and it can be built in either a capital or regular province IIRC.

Siege ships are really good BTW, you can even take coastal towns by simply bombarding the garrisons into retreat. Oh and you won't have any more problems with transports, seems like 2-3 hits from a ballista ship will sink a transport.

Yes that's the one! You need to build that.

Military wharves can only be built on province capitals that have a port. A level 2 wharf will get you those onagers, scorpions, and ballistas you want. Otherwise, minor settlement ports will only get you raiding ships.

there are multiple ports that offers multiple units. drydock,military wharf,harbour etc etc

It might be a bug, but I can't recruit artillery ships for Iceni. I don't know if it has to do with location of the buildings or what but I have no option to do so. I have researched everything, captured half the map, but still don't have this option. I am curious that the name of the ship is Roman Light Artillery Quinquereme, Briton Ballista (Ship), if you have to build it within a province of rome? That would make sense. Any assistance is appreciated.
