Macedon has the best military in the game

has anybody else noticed this? the pikes are so powerful they can steamroll anything, combined with royal peltasts, which have insane stats and can go toe to toe with pratoreans. also the cav choices are the best in the game with the companion lancers and aspis companions. i find myself winning every multiplayer match i join as macedon. lol, i even saw a game today that said no macedon. im just pleased that CA did macedon justice in this game. unlike in rome 1 where you couldnt even play them and they had a spartan symbol for their flag. another reason why this is a great game and fools who say rome 1 was better need to be smacked.

not even close. royal spartans get mowed down by the pikes. then they have no chance once the aspis companions have killed the spartans ♥♥♥♥♥♥ citizen cav and i can plow in for a flank. never lost to anybody playing sparta.

He was talking about multiplayer and macedons late game units. Of course you beat them less than 20 turns into campaign when they are weak.

i mean honestly i havnt lost a battle yet and ive played like 40 multiplayer battles. in one 3v3 match i was macedon, both my 2 allies were gaul and the other 3 were roman. my allies were each smashed, but i beat the guy across from me, then proceded the smash the other 2 guys with no problem. it seems that if any unit fights pikes from the front, they rout within 20 seconds, even pratorians. and the aspis companions are basicly medevil knights that can chew up any other cav unit. the combination of pikes, crazy royal peltasts, and knight like cav make them the best.

Probably because the AI isn't smart enough to always activate "phalanx formation" when using pikemen... and needless to say, when pikemen aren't in their formation, they are extremely weak. I also started as Sparta, and then easily conquered macedonia. So I was surprised as well when I started a "custom battle", and saw what macedonia had on the table.

Macedonia is most definetely my current favorite faction right now. Even cheap levy pikemen kills pretty much anything, besider other, better pikemen. That is, unlees you hit them in the rear... But that's what the cavallry is for.

exactly. if you use macedon's units like alexander did you can win almost every time. i usualy have 5 thorax pikes with 2 to 4 royal peltasts on each end as a main line that advances. then the cav follows keeping the flanks safe, then charges in to destroy the enemy cav, which it has no problem doing, then flank.

Well i notice people Pike Spam and yes i find them really hard to counter i can still beat them if i use Barbarians or Romans but if i use Greeks its a 50/50

they dont need to be nerfed.... they are as effective as they would have historicly been. you shouldnt be able to fight 5 rows of 20 foot sarrisas head on. but another thing i notice is the royal peltasts. have you ever seen their stats? they are not missile units. they are like legions, they throw a spear as they charge, but they can defeat any of romes legions in a fight. in the campaign id often just send 3 units of them into cities and they would take out entire garrisons.

Oh, and the one unit you would think would actually be really effective against pikemen, a mounted skirmisher, is pretty much useless against them. I once fought an army twice my size of nothing BUT horse skirmishers, while my armu consisted of only 4 slingers, 3 heavy horses (general included), one siege unit, and the rest pikemen. And I still won. How? Well, I happened to notice that by just selecting a unit of pikemen and letting them run straight to the horse skirmishers (obviously causing the pikemen to loose their phalanx formation, where they run around hlding the spear like it was a flag), causes the enemy to rout almost immediately. I assume that the AI is set so that "long sticks plus mounted units = bad", so it causes them to rout even though there is no way I could actually hurt them, when they are just running there.

I have actually never used the royal peltasts, because I find the pikemen to be more than enough. Are they worth having, instead of a few extra lines of pikemen then?

oh yes..... you would be shocked. in the single player mode i often find 1 unit of royals getting 500 or 600 kills in siege battles... they can take on any other mele unit exept pikes in the game and win. keep them on the ends of your pike lines. especialy in multiplayer you need the flexibility at the ends of the phalanx they give you. pluss they destroy anything in their path lol. which is why im so happy with macedons military in the game. in every multiplayer battle i do i always field the least units, take the least losses, and get the most kills. i mainly play 2v2.

Go tons of CAV and hit them in the back and sides just like in happened in history. If pikes were so good Rome would have switched to them TEK stalears they were.

i must dis agree with you. perosnally i think the 3 barbarian factions are the best. some of the heaviest cav and melee infantry. there my favorite to play.
