It was removed from Shogun 2 and onwards because AI couldn't handle it.

You mean. They didn't bother to fix A.I to handle them?

Yeah, this is something lacking in multi-player.

Well i used to have the AI asking for provinces for ridiculous amounts lol tbh i think they just removed it to stop multiplayer being fun. Trading citys would of been epic in rome .

I think it was a little too easy being able to pretty much buy a country in empire total war for a load of cash, kinda takes a little out of the strategy of going to war for what you still need.

I had to eliminate my AI allies because they took cities i didn't want them to have. would have been nice to at least try to trade for it rather than kill them off. Ahh well, Sparta doesn't stop growing.

The funny thing is, I don't think the actual Spartans would have even asked. Congratulations Spartan. You have honored their memory

Trading regions was ridiclous. In empirevu could trade areas in russia to france. they had no land border and france kept it the whole game and didnt even raise an army there.

What's so ridiculous about it? The U.S.A purchased Alaska from Russia. Yeah...they "bought" a region via diplomacy in real life. It's a perfectly reasonable diplomatic option, I was disappointed to see it removed in Rome 2.

Dont forget the Gadsen and Louisiana Purchase as well.

Yep , trading regions isnt ridiculous , dont forget Rome 2's pre launch motto of 'you make the history' . Doesnt have to be realistic just as long as the comp doesnt sell regions for 1000 denarii . I think they should bring it back, would open multiplayer up some more.

It was a tad useless to be honest though.

The AI just never seemed to use it or react to it very well. If they wanted to sell you a province it would be at an incredible price you couldn't pay and if you could pay it the campaign AI would occastionally for some reason treat it as a conquest (despite being at peace) and declare war on you to retake it. There was also the issue of rebel armies springing up if you couldn't get a garrison there in 2 or 3 turns, they'd take it over, and then either the player would have to assault the city or the AI faction you bought it from (or other faction) would swoop in and take it. Trying to sell provinces to the AI was equally frustrating. I recall plenty of times trying to sell provinces to allies and them not accepting even when I would offer them up free of charge. If a sale did end up going through the AI would make no real effort to garrison the city and, just like before, rebels would come along and snatch it up.

That's at least how it tended to work in RTW and M2TW. In Empire it was just being flooded with nonsensical offers like trading a province in Spain for some undeveloped backwater in Canada or India.
