you could try assasinating generals and such from other families till you've managed to replace them all with your own family.
I actually like the politics aspect. It feels rewarding to bribe a young buck to your party.
I didn't start to get into the game's politics until after around 23 Hrs. with the game.
Bribe is there with all the other commands when it shows up. It is on the same screen as marriage, assassinate etc.
I actually don't think marriage brings a general to your party. You just gain politically from it, I could be wrong.
Maybe Sparta plays differently than Rome, and Romans can't bribe, but I doubt it.
Find a good woman and get her pregnant. 9 months later baby!
