What exactly are "commerce" buildings?
I want to upgrade my "outskirts" to either a "brick dryer" or "amphorae maker". But I'm not sure if the +10% wealth from commerce buildings is worth it. Does this apply to the territory only, or is it emprie wide? I'm guessing a port with trade going on counts as "commerce", but what other buildings do? Thanks.

The "brick dryer" just gives a straight extra 50 wealth per turn.. so I'm not sure if building that would be better.

I'd like to know the answer to this as well

They mostly provide a direct income bonus

If you put your mouse cursor over a building in a settlement, it will tell you if it's industrial, agriculture, commerce, etc. As for the bonus, I beleive it applies to the province unless specified otherwise.

Green = Food.
Blue = Maritime Commerce.
Black = City commerce/industry.
Red = Military.
Yellow = Forums(Provincial city slots for larger buildings, vary from public order, commerce, food supply etc..)
Pink = Statues.

Hope this helps a little. As cyberjarl has said, mouse over for tooltips.
Or right click the building icon to take you directly to the built in encyclopedia. :Bucco:

Edited=colour added.

blue is maritime commerce, there are other non maritime commerce buildings.

in the finance window for your province you can mouse over each region in the province, and it will tell you how much income is coming from each region and from what source in each region, so it will tell you 150 maritime commerce, 50 commerce, 300 subsistence, 100 agriculture etc.

the buildings that add a percentage to commerce or whatever base it on those numbers, so you can figure out from there how much wealth the percentage will end up being.

i believe black is actually industry, lol.

some of the yellow buildings are actually commerce.

i believe it will effect any income where it says something like "+100 income from commerce". i dont think it effects certain buildings, rather it effects certain types of income.

There seems to be inconsistency in the labeling/terms used within the game.
To find any rhyme or reason in the riddle:
Judging from the Wealth Breakdown mouseover for each region under the Wealth and Income section of the Province Details window....'
This is the breakdown of "Wealth Type":

Agricultural Wealth
---distinct from
Livestock Wealth

Industry

Local Commerce
----distinct from
Maritime Commerce

Culture

and Subsistence does not seem to be related to a paricular building category but does recieve "all buildings" modifers.
Are there more categories?

Port buidings can porduce both Local Commerce Wealth and Maritime Commerce Wealth....
Agricultural buildings can produce either Agriculture Wealth or Livestock Wealth. etc.
Town buildings can produce various wealth types.
But I belive modifers attributed to Agricultural Buildings or Commerce Buildings will not apply to Agriculture Wealth form Towns? As apposed to modifers directly to Agriculture Wealth or Livestock Wealth or Local Commerce or Maritime Commerce Wealth?
Tech description of Agriculture Wealth seems to also modify Livestock Wealth?
but Tech Commerce modifers are described in terms of Commerce Buildings - and so should modify say, both Local Commerce Wealth and Maritme Commerce wealth generated by Port Buildings? Port Buildings - Commerce Buildings - Local/Maritime Commerce Wealth producing buldings? there needs to be consistency here and in other descriptions.
