It's worth noting that the RTW2 patches appear to operate diferently from most Steam games in that they appear to start updating whilst downloading so expect a few pauses during download and a lengthy download time compared to the small size of the actual patch.
Aren't they betas?
However, given the firefight they have on their hands to solve the multiple issues I expect they may not be as fully tested as a normal patch. Under these conditions an update could actually cause new problems and conflicts so expect numerous patches over the coming weeks.
Once the game becomes more stable the patches will be less often, larger and more thoroughly tested before release.
Great. Because the patch made my previously playable-but-laggy freeze on end-turn. What are the patches to "Opt-in" to in Rome 2 then?
Steam doesn't really work like that.
If you want to revert back to the pre-patch game you will need to uninstall Rome 2 (Right click on game in library and "delete local content").
Then Right click on RTW2 and select PROPERTIES then the UPDATES tab and turn off the auto-update option.
Then re-install RTW2 and it will be unpatched.
If you keep an eye on this forum or the official one you will see when patches are released and what they do. All patches are cumulative so when you decide to try again just turn auto updates back on and your game will be patched to the latest version. You cannot choose which individual patches to apply.
I did do that. What I mean is that Steam downloaded the 22mb patch for me, even though "Opt-out" was selected.
