I'm playing as rome and in game all it says i need for this unit is the "Manipular Barracks" I go to recruit units in that Province and ... nope not there, anyone else have this problem? I'm starting to think its a bug I have all my other units I should have except for them.

Have you advanced military tech to legionaries? If so, the Triarii aren't available any more. I've been able to recruit them just fine before researching it.

I think you might need manipular barracks II.
I got it up to legion Barracks III now, even when I went to Barracks II it never said Unlocked Triarii. Nope the Best and only Spearmen I can create is Auxiliary Infantry
That's the wrong militay barracks. You want the one called "Manipular Barracks".
It's a picture of a RECTANGLE shield.
That means you already advanced past the early rome stage. Hastati, Principes and Triarii are no longer available and replaced by legionaries and veteran legionaries.

The game never notifies if you can build new units so you probably just missed them. Or I just never noticed the announcements.

The lvl 2 version of this is called Manipular Barracks, It never gave me the Triarii, so I upgraded it to to lvl 3, Cohort Barracks, still none. I even when to another province I hand and got another lvl 2 Manipular Barracks, still no Triarii
Oh, Ok L3TUC3, ...kind of sucks just to loose those spearmen and stuck with the old Auxiliary Infantry to use as spearmen.
Once you research miltary tech far enough you get legionaries to replace your hastati, principes and triarii. It doesn't matter which barracks you have. You can also upgrade your current infantry to the same by left clicking the unit cards.
If only they had the slightest of message in the Total War Encyclopedia about this. one little line "Triarii becomes obsolete with X" under that unit card. that’s it!
Hate to revive such an old post, but I've just ran into this in my game. I'm being prompted to upgrade my Triarii units to Veteran Legionaries, but to the best of my knowledge (I haven't used them in battle yet) they are sword infantry rather than spear infantry. Or at least their unit card shows a sword rather than a spear.

Have I lost my ability to recruit anti-cavalry units now? Or do the Veteran Legionaries have a trick up their sleeve that I don't know about?
Yeah, pretty much.
You can not demolish your barrack with 1 upgrade, so you'll be able to recruit the triarii.
Its not wise to just keep upgrading the barracks. have one barrack on lvl2, so you'll be able the recruit the triarii
Thing is, I haven't upgraded the barracks yet. As soon as I finished researching the tech I got the option to upgrade my units, and I have the option to upgrade the barracks though I haven't done it yet. Still no spears though.

Although cavalry doesn't seem to be as much of an issue in this game as it's been in previous ones.
There are auxiliary units and gladiators that you can recruits that have spears.
I was a bit surprised when I lost the ability to recruit Triarii as I have always had spear infantry in my armies since the first Total War, And the Triarii is an expensie unit and considered the best Roman Pike infantry. This is however clearly stated in the description of the research for the lvl3 Legionary Barracks, "Veteran Leagionary replaces Triarii". and Yes it seems odd to replace a pike infanty with a heavy sword infanrty but this is in fact very Historiclly correct. As the following article from the repository of all knowledge will concur, it seems the romans evolved into a much more flexible force, leagionaries being very well traned and boasting 2 pilums (could act as spears) they disolved the obsolete Triarii. Here is the article: << The Romans themselves had retained some aspects of the classical phalanx (not to be confused with the Macedonian phalanx) in their early legions, most notably the final line of fighters in the classic "triple line", the spearmen of the triarii. The long pikes of the triarii were to eventually disappear, and all hands were uniformly equipped with short sword, shield and pilum, and deployed in the distinctive Roman tactical system, which provided more standardization and cohesion in the long run over the Hellenic type formations.>> Well done CA for being so rigorous, I miss my Triarii but as they say... When in Rome, do as the Romans do. As it turns out the legionaries and OMG so F****** OP Praetorians do a very nice job against Cavalry but if you miss your pikes... get some auxilliary pikemen or phalanx, make sure you auxilliary baracks are in the right province and you can recruite some local units, a nice touch but the only thing the romans truly lack is Archers... Velites are great but tend to run low on ammo very fast, a few good Auxilliary Archers make a good addition to the very powerfull roman legion. Hope this wasn't too long ;D
