Are they in the game? How do I get them?

Have to take their land.

They are in the game and they are recruitable as mercenaries, I remember checking their stats, just off the top of my head they do about 25 more damage then normal archers with no range increase (this was pre patch) haven't checked since.

So I have to recruit them in their province? Where exactly?

Crete, nah pretty sure it's all the Greece area.

I've only got Cretin archers that walk around the whole map to move 10 yards to the right.

The Cretan Archer are no longer the best archers in game. I do not know if it is a bug or an error in the in game encyclopedia. The in game encyclopedia states that Cretan Archers have a fire rate of 28 shots per minute but when you actually buy them, once you have taken over Crete (Hierapytna), they have a fire rate of 7 shots per minute. Very slow.

So I would not suggest you to go into the trouble of conquering Crete just to get “the best” archers, in accordance with the in game encyclopedia, because they are not or at least until the bug is fixed.

I have some auxiliaries cretan archers and they have 28 fire rate.
They are very light armored though.

It's the lower Greece area but I can't remember the name exactly (Hella maybe)?

Anyway here is how you can find out exactly what and where you can build Aux units. Basically go into your tech and right click a tech that would unlock an aux barracks and then on that barracks you can right click the units it produces and then it will tell you where.

In your case you would use the pedia to look up aux barracks IV (the highest one), then from there right click the Cretan Archers and then it will say recruited in blah blah provinces.

I know what you're thinking! I have no idea why they do it like this but...

Basically take over any of those provinces and build an aux barracks there and then you can recruit them.

**edit**
This is assuming you're playing Rome. If not then you would look up your faction equivalent.

Different from the TW Rome 2 Vanilla, you have ONLY Athens that can make these archers, so you have to construct the auxiliary barracks on Athens (Don't try Sparta or Crete, game logic).Even so, they fire 12 shots per minute.
