Should I choose Empire or Republic
So, I won the Roman civil war and I've been confronted with a choice: to remain a republic or to turn my state into the Roman Empire, with no proper commentaries on it. What are the gameplay differences, has somebody found out?
(ib4 lurk moar. I tried)

And the worst part of it is that I don't have a possibility to save my progress before pressing one of the buttons.

So, for anyone who could also be interested in the answer: staying a republic gives you "Status Quo" achievement, and a buff (-10% unit recruitment cost, +2 army recruitment capacity for all provinces). Becoming an empire gives you a buff of -10% upkeep costs and -25% of corruption. That's what I found out in one turn after the decision. Maybe something else differs that I don't know.

I would have prefered it if the republic buff was to do with trade and culture bonuses to set it more apart, though I chose and do love the empire bonuses.

with +2 army recruitment you could pump out armies fast. i know Ares temple for Sparta do the same if Rome also has a temple with +2 you could really defend easily if threatened by just dropping an army of 8 units (general +7) in front of an invader in one turn.

A good idea - The only time I've been caught with my pants down late game was when the civil war kicked off. Had to pull in Armies from some distance to halt the senate corruption =D

Don't tend to get in a position where I have to raise an army quickly, I have many legions, who tend to take walls rather than defend them ^^

-10% upkeep and -25% corruption is really nice. Empire it is :D

Going empire gives you crazy money per turn - 9 armies, with 20 units each and 3 fleets (haven't had the need to build them much) I'm now pulling in 13k a turn! Up from just under 8k per turn

(Sorry have not read any replies)

If you select empire you will get much reduced corruption and reduced upkeep. It's a sure way to win the game easily no matter what difficulty setting you have chosen.

If you select republic you only get a discount when hiring new units, but as long as you've reached the civil war you won't need anymore units anyway.

So for this game the 'empire' choice is the only choice really. Select the other one for a very tough challenge.

Historically accurate I guess :)

Wonder how Europe would look like if Rome was a republic after Caesar...

lol no way i gave up when i had ciivl war, i had 9 armies in all empire and 27 rebel armies, it was no chance. Anyway i would choose empire, maybe dictatorship if i could, i want enslave all free people to my will and enstablish a martial law, with big armies to repell rebellions...

hahahahaha

Reminds me of Medieval, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ faction in egypt just wouldn't give up, every 10 turn or something they would return with even larger Armies.
It was Crazy.
Rome 2 though, Before the Civil War (Which believe me came out of nowhere, my people were happy, and the senate was fine with me) I had already conquered the Macedon, Seleucid, Pontus, Bithany, Sparta, Athena and my allies Pergamon and Knossos had fallen in the battles with Macedon and Pontus.
Egypt fell conveniently by the hand of rebels, and Africa to Arabian peninsula were all conquered by me.
Egypt seems to have an idiotic way of handling its people, because after a return which didn't impact me since they conquered a province that didn't belong to me or my ally Blemmyes.
I had an alliance with Nasamones but suddenly I find them gathering by one of my provinces and next I know they send a spy to incite unrest, after the fail I declared war on their @ss and Masaesyli (our common ally that entered the war on their side) and destroyed them.
Qidiri after a few battles begged for peace and I gave them the peace Right when the civil war broke out.
At east I conquered the factions I named and started re rotating my army towards west since my Client state (Raeti) was in trouble by Eravisci.
So I brought my armies closer to Roma, One army close to the last city of Raeti ready for the black if they would get attacked.
When I had finally moved enough units close to Roma I declared war on Eravisci and helped Raeti get control back over the situations (Although they are not completely safe yet)

By the Time I had done these suddenly Civil War Broke out.
Roma was taken and two of my provinces in danger, I moved one army that I had to the North of Roma down, Brought another Close Army from East to Roma's vicinity.
Created a New Army in one of the provinces that was not in danger but was close enough and an Army right by the State Loyalist, hired 4 mercs and the Army from north that consisted of 1600 men was there to support.
The battle that started in the second turn of the Civil War battles gave me the chance to win the Civil war with ease.
State Loyalists came for us, 3 Armies the combined numbers was over 3400, 1200 more men than my army.
But with a briliantly planned battle I defeated their armies while killing two of their generals and losing only 500 men while they lost 2700.
After that I defeted the only Army close to Roma, Took over the Roma and defeated the surviving armies and that was it.
When given the choice to go republic or Empire I decided Empire since I felt betrayed by the senate and now I have the full control I make around 20000 each turn and am going to conquer the west.
I hope you guys enjoyed this. :D
Btw, don't bother checking this account, it is on my other account.
