I was wondering the same thing, does anyone have an answer?

I think you can dismiss them and then rehire them as a general or admiral.:Hercules:

disband him wait a turn recruit a new army

You need to replace the admiral first with a new one, by using the replace button on the admiral tab of the fleet. That admiral then becomes available in the pool of characters available and you can either create a new army for him, or replace another general in another army.

Replace both general with someone else, then end the turn.

Both will return to the general pool on the next turn.

Now you can put them wherever you want, and pick new bodyguard units.

At least I think that works...

Yeah you must be playing the Brutti tride in Rome - who starts out as an Admiral :)

I kept him as a fleet comander, non agression packed the gauls up north - and am moving into towards Carthage this game. He's had some great victories at sea so far. A side note complaint I have though is that sea combat is very "meh" even if the ocean graphics are awesome.

Just a word of caution - replacing someone and sending them to the pool has a pretty good chance of developing some nasty traits. Guess nobody likes being relieved of command :)

thanks peeps, i found the replace button a few mins after i wrote this ><

to ralek - the replaced become a statesman & sits in rome with the other lunatics gaining gravitas so you need to send the guys who have low gravitas back to rome during peace time, or get your oldest guys as statesmen & younger guys out there getting stars.
if any rivals were statesmen during war time as soon as "peace" comes quickly re-assaign them to garrison duty, naval patrols or guard mountain passes ect.

to 9k-Faidid - yea i am playing as them but carthage got wiped out before i could even get all of sicily >< by guargantia, they just popped up again half way across africa. as for graphic, runs like a piece of ♥♥♥♥ onmy PC

to shogun - i just checked that last night, if the disband button worked from the unit card

the AI gives gravitas to rivals even if they are relegated to garrison duty or otherwise doing nothing, do generals by any chance get gravitas for either lowering revolt chance garrison/govenor of a fast growing growth/economy settlement/province? if not then gravitas distribution is glitched.

I understand the replaced leader becomes a statesman. What I meant is the act of replacing smeone has a high chance of giving him negative traits (replacing the current ones if there's no room for more).

Generals on garrison duty seem to get gravitas based on size of force controlled.

oh i see , as in other characters or the senates reaction for the command switching hands, cant say i have noticed it, if there is a deduction for sending someone back to rome its not very much
