No Byzantium/Constantinople/Istanbul?
Isn't there supposed to be a city there?

There was a city of some sorts, but not sure it got 'big/famous' till much later as was used in the eastern roman empire , No Idea when it got massive influx but ye there should be a city there for hollywood history reasons tbh

Byzanz comes after the east roman empire

Rome II doesn't include late roman period and I doubt they will include that period. Maybe next game.

Not really, Constantine moved the capital to an existing greek city called Byzantium, and renamed it Constantinople. The city had been there since before the Roman Empire.
I don't know how relevant that city was at the time, though.

I've no idea why it isn't in the game, it certainly played a not insignificant part in this time period.

Maybe it's been omitted so they can sell it as part of a new faction Dlc.

Yes really. Constantinople was founded by Constantine (the Great). I'm not going to wiki it for exact dates, but I know for sure it happened some 100 years AD at least. The game starts at 272B.C. if I'm not mistaken, which is in the Roman Republic era. You're talking about the Roman Empire after the split between east and west.

That's all well and good, but the city of Byzantium existed on that site before Constantine. Constantine didn't just come along to an empty bunch of land and said "Let's build a city here"

Not true.

"Byzantium (/bɪˈzæntiəm/ bih-ZAN-tee-uhm; Greek: Βυζάντιον Byzántion) was the ancient Greek city on the site that later became Constantinople (modern Istanbul). It was founded by Greek colonists from Megara in 657 BC."

The City was there for generations before the start of this ROME II timeline, but the problem is it wasnt really 'special/famous' enough historically to be included at 250~BC. It shoulda been for this is a hollywood history game(and far to arcadey battlewise it has to be said) so famous cities people reconise is always gooo to have as people want to take them and makes a area more intresting to capture etc..

Ancient Byzantion was never very large. The city was not terribly prominent until Constantine made it his capital and renamed it. There is no reason for it to be in the game in this time period, and I am glad to see that it isn't. CA has done their homework, and this game is much more historically accurate than Rome 1 was.

Well, at the time period we are playing in it would probably be nothing more than a small collection of tents.
