Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition

Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition

Black screen
All I get is a screen saying Rome II, then the screen goes black and all I have is sound. I can click at things, but can't see them. What's the problem? I checked my pc and it should be able to run Rome II!!!!!

.... since you (all) have been so absolutely brilliant giving such a huge amount of details for actuall problem analysis, for us it is simply too difficult to process all of the variables with our poor tiny brains ;-)

Ive done everything i know how to do my drivers are updated and my game cache fine. is not my graphixs card because ive ran this game fine on ultra settings since its release. I tried deleting the rome 2 folder and editing the scripts that did nothing, i dont have the gfx direct11 thing to change to true or false or w/e it is in the script which i thought was weird because i had tochange that when i bought in on release to play it, my start up screen when from blue to red, but now is white and bigger than normal.. it started doing this after the update with the emperor edition, and so i havent been able to play it for months..
idk how much more info to give. the problem is i have a black sceen,
can hear all the sound and can click on things but i cant see ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

Good that you have already shown some initiative & searched & tried for some solution(verify game files, delete appdata folder etc.).

Do you have any mods activated? If so, deactivate & COMPLETELY deinstall them (as some mods still cause issues even after deactivation, or make sure you know that your mods are not outdated).

Like Matsumi already mentioned problem sounds video card related.... I assume video card drivers is up to date?

Currently there are a lot of issues related towards Windows 8.1 & Mac, but can't help you with this unfortunately......

If my given info still does not fix the problem then go to:

http://forums.totalwar.com/forumdisplay.php/144-Total-War-ROME-II-Support-Forum

Hope this all helps you to enjoy Rome 2 again.....

I already deleted all the mods i had, and yes video card drivers are up to date. im not sure what windows i have, i dont have a mac, screw apple.. lol

How can it be my video card if ive been able to run the game perfect since its release date even on ultra settings and ive never had lagg, that makes no sense to me? i believe my graphix card is a ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series but im not 100% sure i built my own pc back in 2009 and its a beast so none of that video stuff is the problem. I think the problem is just something in the script or some kind of setting isnt right but i jsut dont know...I even tried disabling my firewall.

Ive tried to look at the forums on the TW sights but there no help either, this really bums me out cuz i really want to be able to play.

Thanks for the help though..
Unfortunately after some updates new machines are affected still..... also many "PC beasts" have or had issues so this is a bit unpredictable.
Did you actually post an thread question on the TW/link I mentioned?

Sorry that did not work. Best of luck :-)
No but ive read like 20 threads about the blackscreen issue on there and have had no luck... yeah idk what to do might just have to give up and play shogun or empire or medevil lol but this one and the original rome were my favorite. Or ill have to wait tell the new TW game come out... it just bugs me cuz i was able to play the game for many many months with no problem then they screwed it all up for me... thanks though for trying to help!

When you deleted the Rome2 folder located at C:\Users\<profile name>\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly , did you also disable Steam's Cloud save feature to make sure you didn't download bad data from the cloud before loading TW:R2 again?

When you say you edited the scripts, what did you do? Did you change the resolution lines to be what your screen's native resolution is?

For a 1920x1080 monitor:
x_res 1920; # x_res <int32>, Fixed window width #
y_res 1080; # y_res <int32>, Fixed window height #
x_pos 0; # x_pos <int32>, Window position #

[...]
fix_res true; # fix_res <bool>, Forbid window resizing #
fix_window_pos true; # fix_window_pos <bool>, Forbid window repositioning #
yea ive messed with both of those i changed it to the smaller screen and that didnt work eiher. I dont think i disabled the steam cloud one though what do i change on that??
fix_res true; # fix_res <bool>, Forbid window resizing #
fix_window_pos true; # fix_window_pos <bool>, Forbid window repositioning #

^^^^^^^
thats what mine says in the scripts in that area
And what i did in the scripts was change some start up things to either true or false jsut to see if somehting would work, but i put everything back to normal so.
