is the persian empire completly dead during the start of rome 2 or does some of the factions in the game still have ties to it?

Persians are a satrapy of the Seleucids at the start of Rome 2. I had a game recently where they managed to control half the middle east - including Egypt.

They start out way in the right side of the map. Name is actually Persia, iirc. They have a blue icon with some kind of critter on it. Load up a Seleucid game, you should be able to find them.

i found them just never paid any attention to their name just the region they was in...CA unlock them so i can restore the old empire :-)

the Persian empire was pretty much dead Alexander destroyed it and it never became a power after his death

Nope the persians rose to power after the parthians fell to the Sassanid Persians. This happned about 300 years out of the games timeframe though. Maybe in a late roman empire expansion they will return.

I think they should be playable, after all what could be better than reversing Alexander's conquests. Starting from the very fringes of the former empire and marching all the way back to macedon.

Don't say its not what happened lol. Rome conquered most of the map we play on so anything but them winning is false.

After Alexander died all territories that use to be Persian that were been conquered by Macedonians become independents, thats why you will found helenic troops all arround Persian territories

Parthia was later conquered by a Persian dynasty thus spawning the Sassanid empire (it was in the barbarian invasion expansion). The idea of a persian empire endured its fall. Theres absolutely no reason why they couldn't give the chance for the Persian Empire to try and reform itself.

Playing as Parthia doesnt has the same appeal as playing as Persia...ik this is suppose to be all about the hellenistic factions but i would really love to see more nomadic & eastern factions
