The Seleucids are very terrible at diplomacy though....

Its not so easy when you are fighting Egypt and most of Asia lol.

+ op chariots + op heavy bowmen + op general units + op early recruitable melee unit + op traders (send out a scout ship and trade with half the map by turn 10)

They have the best slingers too. I find bowmen just dont cut it compared to eastern slingers. They also get more money than everyone else. I could have said they were OP before the patch came, they are OP in the total faction unlock mods. The only new unit they have gained through the official DLC is the Knights of Azam. Which seems a bit tight of CA but ah well, their units are horribly powerful. They will be spammed on multi player battles.
Seleucid are gonna be nasty in multiplayer. Campaign wise, their insane military is balanced by their cultural bi-polarness. They're considered Hellenic for their public order/base culture, but I have generals giving eastern culture from traits and all their cultural buildings give eastern culture as well. The only buildings that give hellenic culture are the religious building chain.
Meh. CA will probaly balance the OP-ness in a future patch. They decreased the charge bonus of the barbarian units, which wasn't amazing in the first place, and decreased the attack of all units at a different point. Enjoy your selucids now, they will probably change in the future.

How the hell do you figure the Selecuids are OP? I've been getting crushed in my campaign.

i was talking about the late game seleucid units, and as far as you getting horribly crushed, make sure your early armies have a somewhat balenced unit mix, pikes are extremely good but you need some other melee units to make sure they dont get flanked, and cavalry so you can hunt down their ranged units
Fluffy Fishy Oct 19, 2013 @ 12:38am
I find a mix of 4 eastern slingers, 4-6 companion cavarly, 6-8 pikemen and 4 sword/hoplite units works very well. Those slingers are beastly, 22 attack compared to something like the 12 of the western slingers. Definately at this point use companions not cataphracts or elephants, they look good but are slow and unweildy.

against the AI i use the solid block of pikes in the middle flanked with 2 sword/hoplite units then depending if i have 6 or 4 cavalry using the 4 as one solid block or two groups of 3. They need to do this for best effects.

OP? People on reddit disagrees. They are strong and versitile, but they were that too in rome 1 (and historically). Their pikemen lose to pikemen of macedon and same goes for cataphracts against partians.

testing against ai makes for questionable results so my tests were of me using a friend's account and i controlled both units (I used non generas because the unit of the general himself will randomly go off and get himself killed) the end tier macedon unit had steady removed but its still on the end tier seleucid(that or my game was buggged) which completely ate the macedonians, as far as your tests went did you make sure to use non general units, and to use unit abilities?

Ask from those redditors at reddit r/totalwar. I haven't been at my house for few days so it was impossible to test this by myself.
