is there a list of mercenary units anywhere?
im playing as carthage and one of my objectives is to maintain a large mercenary army. most of themercenaries in north africa are tribal crap units so i was wondering if there was a list somewhere that could tell me where to get good mercenaries. i ideally want some heavy cavalry and some kind of shock or sword armed infantry since i have good enough hoplites and pikemen.

Yes, I did find a map the other day which, when scrolling over the Provinces showed what mercs were available. I can't for the life of me remember where, or how I came across it :/ Have you tried using the encyclopedia? I'll try to find it again and get back to you :) In the meantime, you could try looking around Spain, as most the factions there are of Celtic origin they may have decent infantry; if you head over to the eastern Baltic Sea, Sarmatia has Horse Archers and Lancers as I recall. I play as the Suebi and in the provinces of Suebia and Germania Magna you can get Spear Brothers and Longbow Hunters; if you go to the provinces of Gaul, they have Swordsmen :)

Try this: http://tallmyr.se/rome2/. Don't forget you can build an auxiliary camp in any of those provinces and hire mercenaries for cheap.

that's just for Roman auxillaries.

you can go to the encyclopedia in game, list all units and then see what provinces the mercs are available in. i would presume there's a map similar to the one given above for merc, but no idea where to find it.

i think the best spot to hire mercs is Greece though. they have a solid balance of units and what i believe is the best merc infantry in the game (Vet Merc Hoplites). for good merc cavalry you're prolly going to have be in the east for anything heavy.

Yeah the map I find a couple of nights back was like the one in the link, but showed all merc units
Start Rome 2. Open the Encyclopedia. Click the 'Regions' button on top task bar. It opens up a map showing all provinces and regions, plus what factions own them and what mercenaries are available in each province. Hope that helps :)
