Does anyone have a solution? i think this may be caused from mods which i have deleted but haven't uninstalled and if thats the case how do i uninstall mods?

Shut down Steam. Go to Local Disk (C:)\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Total War Rome II\data . Once your are in the data folder scroll to the bottom of the list & look for all the mods you were subscribed to before. Delete all of the mod folders, but do not delete anything else. Now after all the mods are deleted restart Steam & verify the Rome II game cache. This should make Rome II start downloading some missing files. After that is finished restart Steam again, & launch Rome 2. Now the game should work. If it doesn't work come back here & let me know. I have one more process to try if this process doesn't work. Good luck. :)

Ok. Very simple. Close Steam. Then open your Steam folder and delete everything except the "Steam exe.", & the "StaemApps" folder. Then launch Steam form the exe. , & let Steam repair itself. This will delete all of the old Steam updates & only install the newest ones. Sometimes the old updates will interfere with new updates & will cause problems like games not starting. Make sure you know your Steam user name, Steam email address, & Steam Password before doing this because Steam will ask for all of this info when it finishes repairing itself & tries to sign you in the first time. Do NOT delete the "Steam exe." or the SteamApps" folder. Good luck again. If this doesn't work I have heard of one more fix, but I personally do not have those details. Both of these fixes have worked for me at different times & I have never need any other way to get Rome II or Shogun 2 to work when experiencing the splash screen lock up.

Yea I have the same issue with it. It crashed mid battle and wouldnt load past the first black screen. Ive tried re installingand other "fixes" but Ill try that

Almost the same thing except this time it opened windowed, but it still "stopped responding"
Do you have the Radious mod? if so then it has to be a mod issue because i'm experiencing the same thing lol

When reinstalling, did you go to the steam/appdata folder and delete the entire rome 2 folder? Uninstalling only removes the files added by an installation, which means it leaves the mod files, precisely the files you want to remove, behind.

If that still does not work you could also try to delete the Rome 2 folder in appdata/roaming/thecreativeassembly. Be warned though, this also contains your saves: Try to cut the folder and paste it on desktop. If it works take the save files and try putting them back in the newly made Rome 2 folder.

Yes. This was the third way to fix the game that I did not have the details to. Thanks for posting it. :)

i did try that last night as well. I am not running mods, nor have I even downloaded them. Its strange that I got to play for about 3 hours then it crashed and a reinstall doesnt even fix it.

Could my issues be windows 8 related? it did work for a bit on Win 8.

Have you tried using the DirectX Setup from Redistribution folder under Rome2?
Snodog778 Jan 14, 2014 @ 3:01pm
no. I am re downloading it again at the moment. Ill give that a go and see what happens. It just seems strange that that could be an issue as it was running for a few hours before the issue but stranger things have happened.

So whatever happened to the OP? Did any of these possible solutions work for the OP?
