Marius reform date? or surprise bonus?
I know the Marius reforms are in the game because of gameplay showing the reformed units and in custom battle, but when is it? Or is it just a surprise event achieved by a certain amount of imperiums, researching all military technologies? please tell me, this was the only thing I played for in Rome 1.

They are technologys you have to research in the first military tree.

Not an event

very rare in rome1 for me

You have two main technologies that sort of unlock the big reforms.
Under the Military research tree, sub tree Management
Cohort Organisation, this replaces the old style Maniple forms of fighting (eliminates Hastati, Princepes and Triarriai with different veteranancy level Legionary's)
Final is the Remuneration reforms, which add higher level, more armored legionnaires.
Excuse spelling im in a rush lol, but it is not an event keep in mind.

EDIT: It is not Remuneration reforms, but in fact the research done AFTER that which unlocks late level Roman units

it was one of those events you get at like turn 150-200, kind of like in Medieval 2, at turn 150 Gunpowder was invented.

yet another instance showing exactly how screwed up this game is. dismal tech tree, made the marius event something to research and not happen during a particular year. this. game. sucks.

The game never claimed to be trying to repeat history. Indeed part of the presentations for the game made that point clear, allowing the player to make the history. If you're hung up on Marius reforms play Rome 1, which was a feature there, but even then it was not geared to a date but to achieving an imperial city. This game links it to research/time/the path you choose. Of the many issues with the game this one demonstrates how inane much of the commentary has become.

It's nice to have an opinion but it's better if you actually link it to facts. Your claim was simply wrong. Further, modding may improve a game, or some aspects, but that is a matter of taste and now an adjunct to any game whether or not it's perfect. People make mods or choose one regardless. So, taken on its own merits, modding is not evidence that the base game sucks. It's a statement about the nature of online gaming responding to personal interests.

NO, it's based on what you've said. If you don't grasp that, well, try again. There are any number of issues with the game based on design questions. You don't address these you just vent. Forums allow that. Pity.

how about you go comment on a forum where people actually give a damn about anything you have to say. unsubbed from discusson.

you make a really good point, i for one actually enjoy Rome 2, i like the fact that i can just simply click on a city and it will show 4 more, rather in the other total wars where you have to click on each individual city, it makes ruling a large, expanding empire more compact and less diverse. and really what people fail to realize is modding doesnt change the BASE game, it doesnt change the map, it doesnt change the graphics, it doesnt change the engine, it doesnt change the animations, it really only adds to them. So if you like the mods, you like the game.

Codian, I think you could better apply your last comment to yourself, which was sort of the point.

Why so many people wanna justify the $60 they wasted on this pos game. It's TRASH. Done. Case closed. Quit argueing that black is white. Has just about as much strategy involved as playing a game of checkers. Even lackluster Shogun 2 was more entertaining. Total War turned to Total Trash after Medieval 2.
