I understand what you're saying. To my knowledge you are correct; Sparta, as a city, did not have walls because the Spartan men were seen *as* the actual walls of Sparta.

i understand. It´s capital city of lakedaimon and each capital city of province must be with wall. but I do not think that they would not make it. Build sparta without walls

You're gonna need walls the way this damn dlc is cuz you will need every available army to chase down "invaders" who do nothing but run away from you. Then when you finally catch them another faction nearby will take advantage of the goose chase you've been on and move on your unprotected city.

Sparta did not have walls. I hate the fact that it has walls in a dlc that is named after them. So stupid. I really hope some modder or maybe even CA fixes this.

What did they do with all the money? Blow?
Probably paid for those annoying rally point staff to go on a bunch of holidays again.

Why do people still expect historical accuracy from this game?

Its kind of an interesting point as to why the game mechanic requires every provincial capital to have walls. And to what degree can we expect historical accuracy from a game. As far as I can tell the primary goal of the game is accurate warfare simulation. The secondary goal is historical accuracy. They kind of go hand-in-hand in that the warfare components (soldiers, walls, terrain, etc.) are attempted to be accurately reflected as they were historically. The problem is, I believe, that if everything is input exactly as it were historically, the warfare simulation (not being perfect) leads to outcomes that do not provide compelling gaming. E.g. if Sparta doesn't have walls, its probably the case (as SuperGorp points out) that you can never win. So maybe it requires some tweaking to the game mechanics, or maybe some nerfs to the other factions or something. Any such thing is difficult to do (not that it shouldn't be done) because the outcome is rather unknown without playing through a large number of scenarioes (after all, its a simulation of a complex system).

So in summary, the walls would be there for balanced game play; which trumphs accuracy. If you wish, perhaps someone can make a mod to have the walls removed. It might not be such a hard thing.

Wrong Sparta did have walls.Their army was fighting overseas and had to rush back. They got back just in time.Decided to build walls

They did not have walls. Sparta did not have walls until the Late Roman Empire period & they did not have "large" walls until the early medieval period. Read: Herodotus, Livy, Plutarch, Thucydides, and of course wikki.

Pyrrhus of Epirus laid seige to Sparta in 272 BC with about 20,000 plus a small number of Elephants. The defenders numbered about 2,000 and at that time the City had no defensive Wall. The seige was broken when Sparta reinfrocements approached.

It is doubtful Sparta had substantial defensive walls during the Pelopnnesian War 431-404 BC, history and tradition suggests it didn't. I'd feel happier of that was backed up by solid Archaeology.

My guess is Sparta had some early "Walls" that were more for defining the limits of settlement and ownership but did not form an effective defence work around Sparta.

It's up to CA how they design stuff, but it might have made more people "happy" if Sparta had no Walls, and a buffed up Garrison.

Walls are pretty harmless in Rome II, it's Towers that kill stuff.

DAMMIT CA!

You're dead on, this is pure blasphemy, blatantly arrogent disrespectful cardinally wrong to put int he game,100% unacceptable, the spartans would slay the creators of this game where they sat in their lazy chairs if they saw themselves being portrayed as building walls. Spartans dispise walls, they only respect man to man fighting, walls are for cowards and weaklings and are a symbol of everything they stand against.

I applaud you for bringing this up.
Or did sparta get conquered and someone else built a wall? (Romans love building things)
