Why does everyone declare war on me?
So there has been alot of criticism towards this game... I have some superficial criticisms which I am not going to get into right now, but there is one major issue that sort of ruins this game for me. That is that, even if I am some insignificant little kingdom, which has no influence over anything beyond my own little locality, nations who have never even met me from across the map still declare war on me for no reason. It is like a domino effect, once one or two declare war, everyone one else joins in. And there is this unnatural focus always on my little kingdom. There may be a whole bunch of other little insignificant kingdoms all over the map which no one pays any notice to....But they all hate on me with a serious passion. So that is a great ruining factor for me. Why did the developers think that this would improve the game? By making the computer nations have a special interest in the player and not treat them like everybody else? I want to be treated like I'm just another little insignificant kingdom, I don't find it fun when the entire map declares war on me. Most ppl who play this game have an interest in history, and like things to be realistic. Well all of the ancient world never once declared war on one single kingdom that was not much more than a city state. Troy was attacked by the tinniest fraction of what made up the ancient world. So they need to get the idea out of their head that ppl enjoy having everyone declare war on them. Before you suggest it, I have done everything in my capacity to make my neighbours friendly but there is no effect. To me this represents a broken aspect of the game, which needs fixing.

Yeh, I don't think those are good ideas for TW games at all. I hope that never happens.
Have you tried any other faction?

Yes I have...the very same thing happened when I was Rome, Sparta, Athens, Epirus...The only time it didn't happen was when I was the Iceni.

Rome was the worst! within like 20 turns, I think everyone that was sofar revealed on the map was at war with me. I didn't do anything to cause that either. Just one by one, they all join in. Really annoying, makes the game unplayable.

Playing the game on anything other than hard is a complete waist of time btw, the game makes a ridiculous jump from waaay to easy to waaay to hard. Once again I'd like to emphasize the fact that what makes it so hard is that everyone declares war on me, I can handle all other challenges, just can't fight that many armies at once. Even if I could, it is just so unacceptably unrealistic, that I wouldn't enjoy it at all. I want to do trade and make alliances and so on like in real life, not just face down hoards of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that don't like me for no reason.
I've completed the Epirus campaign but I think my main problems were Sparta and Athens, then Rome joined in. I don't know how much it's down to the way we play the game but I just worry about the threats closest to home, build my economy and a defensive force, before I start expanding. Have a look at your enemies and try to make alliances with their enemies "My enemies enemy is my friend".

I try to go for the exact same strategy you described, after all it is the most logical way to go. However while trying to focus on my neighbours, suddenly armies from beyond my bubble appear and then I'm fighting all these battles which wear me down and next thing you know I'm fighting for my life to keep them from storming my capital, and I usually lose in the end and am left wondering what on earth happened.

The fact that you have so many enemies is down to the fact you're seen as weak and easy pray. Just like in life, so therefore very realistic.

Since you are next to macedon who is one of the super power with allies, you wil definitely be at war with them, your culture is different from normads up north and barbs to the west, In short you are surrounded by enemies who like to expand
Are you playing with mods ?

have u had to restart coz there r to many factions against and u keep losing?.....if so, i had this prob playing baktria on hard, even though they have 4 provinces it still took around 15 restarts to get anywhere, and that was only when a faction close to be became an ally and enabled me to build up troops with no hassle...u just have to keep at it, trying diff ways and if you start in a walled city then u should be able to fend off those close to u and take there cities once u kill thier armies
