Any of you "Black Screening"?
Just ran into a new issue last night playing campaign with a friend. I googled it and it looks like others are having the issue as well, but I havent seen any fixes so far. Sound works and I can still see my mouse cursor, but the game is still running with an entirely black screen. Never had that problem beforehand, but apparently I do now. I have since built an entirely new system as of one month ago, so I really have to wonder if this is a GPU issue with the game. I have an NVIDIA 970 SC card, for reference.

* I should also mention this happened during a battle; not during the main campaign screen.

You'll just have to restart it, or verify the game cache, because you might be missing the map file for that place where the battle is.

Yeah I tried revalidating just now. Surprisingly didn't pick up any lost or corrupted files. I'll try it again anyways and see what happens I guess. Hopefully this isn't a regular reoccuring issue at hand.

Are you using any graphical mods such as GEM or any other SweetFX presets?

Nope, no graphical modifications. No modifications of any kind, actually.

Did you change something in your graphics settings, or did something update itself ? It is not normal for a game to suddenly black screen when there haven't been issues before?

Hey try this fix first: go to C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Rome2

Delete the Rome2 folder there. You never know, it might work, its known to be an issue.

Also update you Video card driver.

It might be your GPU that is overheating, or your RAM that is causing this problem.

Also watch out your anti virus (especially mcafee) or other programs aren't interfering with the game.

Also here is a link to other fixes, read it carefully. Good luck and keep me posted.

Looks like they're aware of this issue as this is a fresh post: http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/145014-Game-and-voice-working-but-get-black-screen-randomly?s=2154b2828459e5451d0722a4bf7a9595

My GPU and RAM are fine; I regulate both, and they're both running exceptionally. Antivirus isn't an issue because I don't use it on this computer to eliminate issues with game files.

I hope they will fix it soon, personally never had this issue. Delta if you start your game, is it a constant black screen or is it sometimes ?

I can play the game indefinitely until I get into a battle. Even then, I can watch the battle for awhile... then the black screen pulls up with the cursor still visible and the game is still running (NOT hanged). Has only happened when I spectate/activate battles thus far. Campaign screen isn't a problem.

I was getting black screen too on my msi r9 290x repeatedly. I tried underclocking the card just by a fraction and havn't had any issues since.

And do you encounter this black screen in every battle that you play, or is it randomly?

And did you have a mod installed before the latest update (update released with wrath of sparta), or have you never installed a mod in the time you played Rome2?

Found this, it's rather an old fix, but maybe it could work for you.

go to c:/users/[username]/appdata/roaming/The Creative Assembly/Rome2/Scripts/
Create backup of preferences.scripts.txt
open preferences.scripts.txt
change gfx_enable_directx11 true; to gfx_enable_directx11 false;

Your link provided a fix:

Update

Issue resolved for me when turning off Unlimited Video Memory in the Options screen.

What fascinates me is that i have a GTX 970 with 4096 MB VRAM and that Rome 2 only shows that i have 3076MB

Turning this on makes me get this black screen in battles. Played for an hour without crashes when turning it off.

I never install mods, typically. As much as I enjoy new content, it typically can cause issues when you're wanting to do things with friends.. and add STEAM into the mix and it really gets things interesting. So, I unfortunately stay "vanilla" on most games for that reason unless it's official released content. I'll monkey around with things some more today and see what I can figure out.

i solved this by uninstalling evga precision it would cause the video drivers to crash

The new drivers of Nvidia may be bugging games.
