There is a lot of things we modern people take as “fact”, one are shoes, but remember that in ancient times were a luxury and most people were barefoot.
In Soviet Russia, racism is you!
African tribes were way behind Rome and the Greek States during that time period. I bet you wouldn't cry if the big bad white man had no shoes, dirty moose.
Oh what tragic irony; Black people didn't have Kingdoms in Europe.....yet White people had Empires in Africa!
However, there were several rich and powerful sub-Saharan African Kingdoms that were contemporary with the Roman Empire; they just never really 'crossed swords'; can't for the life of me remeber the names of these Kingdoms - I ought to look them up...hmmmmm....
Well in Soviet Union, there was enemy of state, saboteur and so on - all used for same purposes as "*ism" and "*phobia". Hush now, don't talk about scandalous things, or crimes of state... shhhh... :)
Aside from those ones you mention, the BBC ran a very interesting series called, "The Lost Kingdoms of Africa", some time ago; I watched them on repeat on iplayer. Now, some episodes concerned Kingdoms from later periods, but I'm sure some were from the 1st - 5thC AD. If it wasn't that programnme that mentioned them, then it must be some other history doc? I must web-surf this and get a more definative answer!
