Best way to get a faction to join confederation?
Just looking for what other plays have to say about getting other nations/factions to join a confederation. Which is the best path to take etc etc.

Learning by yourself is always the best path .

I'd say you need positive relations with the desired faction and they need to be in some way threatened by a bigger faction. Add to that some gold and it could maybe work. Thats just how I experienced it so maybe someone else had it differently.

I know how to do it, I'm asking which methods people have taken to succeed at it. It's not easy to get a faction to join you.

@Pez, yeah that's pretty much how I had it figured. Didn't know if there were other options to achieve it besides just being overwhelmingly powerful.

They will join if they have strong ties to you and are on the losing side of a war (probably after they have started to lose territory). Also if you are winning a war against them and take a number of their settlements and leave them with one or two they can be willing to join. They will join even if they are not in war if you are much more powerful than them and have good relations. Also any faction which has lost their territory and at least likes you will join so you can get their armies.

Join every war they might ask you to and declare war with anyone they are on bad terms with - while expanding; become the champion of the culture.

By champion of culture do you mean have the most cultural influence?
If so, then I guess setting up religious buildings in most settlements seems like a good plan.

No, but that would be an intuitive and sensible approach to winning the good will necessary to form a Confederation. By Culture in this context, I meant the shared "blood" culture that binds tribes as candidates to your proposal for Confederation.

Ah right, yes. I am trying to keep many of those factions around. Though a few have turned on me so I had to destroy them.

I'm amassing defensive and military allies for now and will attempt to take out Lusitani, which will leave me looking a lot more powerful than I am now. After that, hopefully I can create a confederation out of respect or fear and use them to march on Rome and Carthage(I'm playing Hannibal At The Gates btw).

Ah, don't have that DLC, so, don't know how it might work there if different from Main Camp.

It should be the same. Thanks for the tips!

Well I dont know if something about confederations changed in the last few months, but when me and my girlfriend played a HatG campaign a while ago (I played carthage, she played arevaci) she was able to basically "buy out" every iberian faction except the lusitani because of the roman expansion there. But she also had a ton of money (offered every faction about 20k gold) and good relations with everyone. So I guess those were the perfect circumstances for a confederation.

I just managed to have a 'High' chance of having 2 nations join my confederation, first one went as expected. Second one not so much, their armies dissapeared. Why is that?

I reloaded the save as I see no benefit to losing an allied army, even if the settlement of theirs is now mine.

Someone mentioned this is the case - if your Imperium Level already is capping your Army Limit. So, you couldn't add the extrra armies - they poofed?

Was very fortunate in my case - as I had room to absorb the extra armies -and they added a lot of flavour - and dare I say - immersion - certainly interest to the campaign - as long as it lasted - to the next patch....

If you don't mind playing with your saves - and if decreasing your armies dosen't cause you to lose appeal with the proposal - you could delete an army or two and see if you add the new Confederates?

I can disband a whole army?

Anyway, you were right. It was about the imperium level. I like how absorbing the other armies adds a little bit of variety to your troops like you said. Guess I'll just have to deal with it, or wait till my Imperium level increases to add more people to my confederate.

I know this is an old thread but here's what I found:

I was playing as Arevaci and Turdetani was at war with Nova Carthago. I joined his war and got a military alliance at the same time. They went and took one place from them the next turn with my help. Then when I offered them the confederation, they happily obliged and even paid 4000 to me. I previously had really good relationship with them (220+) and with those I think it was way past 250.

More findings:

I had 350 relationship with one faction and gave them 9000 (which was about 3 turns worth of money) and they joined me and then about 250 with another one and gave them 12000 (which was again about 3 turns worth of money) and they too joined me. This is great as you get their armies and don't even have to fight them, try to do this if at all possible.
