Is an internet connection required to play this game?

Hello, i was wondering how i can play Rome 2 without having an internet connection. Every time i get ready to play this game i have to download hours and hours of patches. I only play single player campaigns. I have tried choosing the option to not update this game automatically but when i hit PLAY is begins to update the game. I have tried un plugging my ethernet cable but it just gives me an error message saying it cant communicate with servers correctly.

You have to have the patches, but once the game is fully updated then yo ucan play offline of course, just needs time to update.

If the game is currently not updated you can't play offline? Holy crap I never realized.

Well it just trys to update, if no internet, no update, no play. But my game auto updates when it needs to, and when not internet, I am fine.
