12-28-24 LOADING SCREEN OF DEATH
Beginning on 12-27 at 8PM EST my Total war Rome II died. No matter what I would do the game would refuse to get beyond the loading screen. Below is a list of everything I have tried so far and the amount of times I have tried it.
1. Restarting my computer x50
2. Hard shutdown i.e holding the power button till it turns off x 41
3. uninstalling and reinstalling total war Rome II including roaming files x 3
4. Verifying game files x 8
5. Deleting my roaming files then trying to boot x 5
6. Changing the language to Russian then changing it back after deleting roaming files followed by restarting my computer x1
7. Deleting everything off my computer including my OS then re-downloading everything x1
8. Checking for updates to drivers and to my computer(there were none) x4
9. Clearing my download cache in steam x2.

Additionally, whenever I start up the game and get the loading screen of death I cannot alt+tab, alt+f4, or Ctrl + Alt + Delete, my way out of it. I don't have the greatest computer in the world but it was capable of running this for two weeks so I can't understand what changed. If someone can fix this ill buy you a DLC or something.

I put the answer I gave to another user with the same problems: The fault seems to be due to windows 11 and its update that has destroyed many games among them it seems that some total war, assassins creed etc...It pisses me off a lot these things, launch updates to launch without checking them well and that is why, although I have a computer that allows me to play games at 1080p and 1440p with 60fps, I prefer the console except for games that do not come out on console. The workaround is to access the appdata folder (type %appdata% in the search engine) and access the Creative Assembly folder. After that, go to the rome2 folder and delete the battle preferences folder. The next step is to access the game (if you use mods disable them but do not unsubscribe) and go to a custom battle with the faction of your choice. Once it loads, DO NOT START BATTLE. Jump to the desktop. After that, log back into the game (if you are using mods you can activate them again from the creative assembly launcher) and you can access the campaign and battles. However, if you start a custom battle, END THE BATTLE. The error will appear again after a while (a few turns, hours or even days) but when the error appears again, repeat the process again. This is the only way to play rome 2 for many people at the moment. Greetings and Merry Christmas from Spain.

Hi I think I found a fix for the game freezing during battle loading screen and when previous fixes (like deleting the battle_preferences folder) haven’t worked.

Steps:

1. Launch the Game – Start Total War: Rome II

2. Open Task Manager
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Alternatively, you can right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager.

3. Go to the Details Tab
In Task Manager, click on the Details tab at the top.
Look for rome2.exe in the list of running processes.

4. Set CPU Affinity
Right-click rome2.exe and select Set Affinity from the dropdown menu.

5. Unselect Some CPU Cores
A window will appear showing which CPU cores the game is using.
Uncheck a few cores (for example, if you have 6 cores, uncheck CPU 9 to 11).
Click OK to apply the changes.

6. Resume the Game
This fix can be applied even if the game has already frozen—just follow the same steps to unfreeze it.

Deselect CPU core. Could it reduce the performance of a game?

ît uses only core zero to begin with

old engine tried to offload stuff to other cores.....engine denied.
in most cases, you'll get an increase in performance. still works as intended....

It's actually a valid solution.

Could if you have a very old cpu but in any case you can reselect the cores after unfreezing the game. At least for me, if the game freezes I just unselect the cores, then game unfreezes and I reselect the cores. After that, the game doesn't freeze unless I close the game and open it again.

I just compare and buy hardware deliberately....so usually all components fit.
My 1070GTi would like to have a word with you.....but I never cared for some 2/4K BS

(you can always read crash-dumps...just saying) . but your mindset is fixed to Rome II, so it must be at fault.
you prolly post6 the ame sh*t over in any other board......maybe the fault is just in front of your screen?
I had similar issues recently after an Nvidia update, and ended up having to reinstall DirectX June 2010 to resolve. Just got my game running for the first time in several days. Had tried everything you tried before. Not sure if it's the same issue as you, as I couldn't even get Rome2.exe to launch, past the mod manager, at all. But maybe worth a try?

If you Google "dirextx june 1010" and head to the first search result from microsoft.com you should be able to find it and install it. It could also be worthwhile to reinstall your Visual C++ redist which should also be available for free on microsoft.com. Rome 2 is dependent on both, and it does also come with some installers in the game directory.

5. My friend, deleting the %appdata%/roaming/The Creative Assembly/Rome 2 folder is an extremely common troubleshooting step for Rome 2 issues, as occasionally the preferences script file and so on can become borked for various reasons. Rome 2 regens this folder on next launch.
2. A hard shutdown is fine. 41 times is kinda crazy though.
7. They are pretty clearly saying they wiped their disk and reinstalled the OS.

Please don't work in IT. Please.
