Follow these steps, dont worry you won't lose your work and mod files.
1) keep the PFM files in a folder on desktop (i do at least for ease of access)
2) delete all the files in that folder except the Pack File Manager 3.1.8 (compressed/rar file)
3) re-extract the files from the Pack File Manager 3.1.8 back into the folder, then re-load the application and you should be able to use and see tables.
I have to do it every time i want to edit my mod which edits the faction_uniform_colours table.
I think it may be a glitch or error in the program that you have to reinstall it everytime you want to use it to see tables, there could be a better way to do it but that's a quick work around.
1). Make sure that PFM is updated to the latest version (do it how Spec said, just reinstall it to the latest version. 5.2.4 currently).
2). After everything is all extracted to the newest version make sure you also download the latest schemata as well. This is all the XML files that modders change with every patch and update to ensure that tables remain functional. (They do it all with the fancy decode tool, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfW7kYN8u-k&list=PLmtG8Z54VtqjC_HovpY948lmmOuxRd66q That is a video explaining the process behind it. )
3). Extract the schemata (version_143 currently for when I'm making this post) to the same PFM folder that you extracted your PFM to, and overwrite all existing files.
4). If you follow those steps then all of the red lettering should be gone and all of the tables should be updated and ready to edit to your hearts content.
