Lusitani
So I saw the Lusitani mentioned in the Hannibal at the Gates expansion... if that is not made itno a playable faction for both the DLC and the Grand Campaign I think I might up and join the legions of rabid haters hating on everything.

They better not **** this up. Cuz my nerd rage is motherf****in' ferocious.

"And yet the country north of the Tagus, Lusitania, is the greatest of the Iberian nations, and is the nation against which the Romans waged war for the longest times." Strabo (roman geographer, 63 BC to 23 AD) in "Strabo.Geography". Penelope.uchicago.edu. Retrieved 2010-08-03.

From 218 BC to 16 BC the Lusitanians fought the Roman Legions, even after 200 years of war it took 8 roman legions at the peak of the roman empire might under Augustus to defeat the last guerrila warriors.

The Lusitanii were frequentely recruited to roman armies. Besides guerrila tactics the Lusitanii used extremely mobile cavalry for raids, and managed to evade roman armies at will, marching fastar, longer and with less suplies.

In terms of civilization, we should remember that the later roman gladius was called hispanicus, because it was the type of sword used by the celtiberian tribes (including lusitanii) representing a higher level of metalurgic proeficiency.

The celtiberian tribes built large cities with complex walls and stone houses, however the intense romanization process left few remains of their cultur, except for large megalitic tombs. One of the remaining walls, Muro the Vandoma (a minor setlement near ancient gold mines) had a 4km extension when the wall of rome at the time had 11km extension.

It would be nice if CA allowed us to play an alternative history in which these cultures had a chance to expand and evolve, the same way the romans did, by aquiring knowledge from conquered peoples: Lusitanii conquer rome, so now they can build aquaducts, conquer cartague and build latifundia, conquer athens ad build bigger temples... just an idea.

That Strabo's quote is really ilustrative, and is the reality, 200 years of wars against Lusitani people, one of the most difficult conquests for Rome no doubt (and the longer, as Strabo says)
Sadly, I have the feeling their unit roster will be lacking in-game.

Sadly, I have the feeling their unit roster will be lacking in-game.

Apart from the generic siege engines and the coming additional units in the dlc.

Lusitani - 5 melee infantry, 5 spear infantry, 3 missle infantry, 3 melee cav, 1 skirmisher cav.

Arevaci - 5 melee infantry, 3 spear infantry, 2 missle units, 2 melee cav

Syracuse - 1 melee infantry, 7 spear infantry, 1 pike, 5 missle infantry, 1 shock and 1 melee cav, 2 skirmisher cav.

So somewhat limited compared to other factions.

not to mention the lack of specific buildings.

Does anyone know of a mod that adds units and buildings to the iberian/western factions?
Afterall the celtiberians are a mix of native iberian peoples and celtic colonists so they should have access to most of the celtic rooster.

BTW, before the rise of Rome as the greatest western power the celtic peoples spread from iberia, to britannia to the turkish peninsula. The ancestors of the Lusitanii defeated the celtic invaders, at a time when rome was paying them tribute, later on thru colonization the two peoples started to mingle, forming the celtiberian culture.

On the atlantic coast Olissipus was originally a greek(or Phoenician, some say) colony, and there were other phoenician colonies, and there was intense trade with the bitish isles to the north, north africa to the south and greece (demonstrated by the abundance of greek potery). Meaning that the Lusitanii should have access to a decent rooster of warships (not quinquirremes or higher though)
These added factions aren't the big factions in this game. You don't hear much about the Celtiberian tribes. Syracuse is pretty important, not a big factions, but still important; but only because of Archimedes and the Punic Wars.
The Lusitani were actually not Celts (ignoring interbreeding post-Celtic migrations), they were already there before the Celts migrated on in. Same for the Basque. People always seem to forget that the Iberian peninsula had its own migrations via the straights of gibraltar really early on - not all European peoples are descended from the migration that came in from the steppes!

Edit: I read your post wrong Sal, sorry. But I'll leave this up anyway.
