Such a bummer, was planning on closing out that campaign and starting another, but now what's the point? Mods made the game fun again and if they're going to cause some sort of save corruption there's no point to leaving this game on my drive.

Real frustrating considering I am the ultimate apologist for this game. Even with the rocky launch I had plenty of fun, and getting back to it was great. But now it's hard to ignore that they're pushing out DLC without fixing the systemic issues that exist in the game.
But the problem is in exactly what you said - what is the point of playing if that could happen again?
Also I was trying to run a benchmark and tried playing historical battles. It couldn't even load those. Like the process of loading anything is broken. I already deleted the game and all the registry keys and what not and gona try to reinstall and run it again.
Thanks Genghison, I will try that manager as well.
Probably butchered that explanation, but a little searching will find the fully explained fix, which notes that reinstalling does nothing because uninstalling doesn't get rid of your broken settings for whatever reason. Anyway, maybe that will at least salvage the game for you. I'll admit that I already broke down and got a little ways into a new campaign with some awesome Radious mods, which I of course started just to check if it worked. Still bummed about my Sparta campaign, though. Three enemy armies left to wipe out and I would have been the last faction standing.
EDIT: it's actually the sticky right at the top of this forum. Give it a shot if you haven't already.
I know you state above that you've deleted mods, but are you *sure* you've unsubbed from all of them through steam as well?
- The most likley instance is the campaign file is dependant on missing mod files, e.g you deleted a mod because you did not want to use it anymore, but the save game needs those missing files in order to run. (missing game files can also be the same cause, validate the integrity of your game cache to reaquire them)
- Outdated mods, trying to load up a game with previous patch mods can crash the game. But this instance is more prominant in people that can't get past the launcher/splash screen.
Turns per year, unit packs, overhauls etc these type of mods change how the game runs, basically any mod that adds things to the game or changes how it runs will conflict with new patches.
Graphical/visual/reskin mods are safest bet as they are just an overlay effect.
- There are rare occasions peoples save files get corrupted by patches, it just happens unfortunatly, the best thing to do if you want to see a campaign to the very end is to change the steam update preferances for the game to "do not keep up to date" and not use any game changing or addon modefications.
Genghison I tried deleting through the launcher and unsubbing through steam as well.
Spec I think I'll do that then. I just tested starting new campaign and loading it. It works. So I'm just gona disable updates and not update anything untill I finish the campaign. That should work!
