End Turn Lag makes this game unplayable for me
I bought this game not long after it was released, and I was sceptical as it was so expensive. It runs perfectly fine on higher settings up until I click the end turn button, then the framerate drops dramatically. At best I get 2/3 frames per second, it is ridiculous. This happens even with all the setting minimised. I'm wondering if this is something to do with AMD bulldozer processors?

PC stats:
CPU - AMD FX 4170 quad core
RAM - 8 GB
GPU - AMD Radeon HD 78(50, 70, I don't remember)

I think if it's running slowly your suspicion is correct and it is probably that processor. I wouldn't bother to count FPS on non interactive parts of games, or on front end menus etc. btw. Probably academic if it's running extremely slow though. :(

Hmmm.... I haven't tried the latest patch come to think of it, I may try that, but after 9 patches I'm sceptical. It's a shame as I really want to play it :(

If you can stretch to it, try getting a SSD. I play on 2 set ups, 1 with standard HD and the other with an SSD, the SSD cranks through this unbelievably speedily in comparison. Won't help with game FPS and you'll still see an FPS drop during load times but by christ it's quicker

I had an SSD before - it bricked, safe to say I won't be getting another

Well I bought game today and I have same problem. First turn is ok, after ending it game randomly slows down ( most times around 5th AI faction ) and next round its lagging. After returning to menu and loading again it already lags so restarting game is needed. I checked proccesors usage and CPU 0 runs at 80-100% and 3 other are at 0-20%, RAM usage 45%. Affinity in task manager is set to all 4. If i uncheck CPU 0, another is randomly selected from 3 remaining pushing it to 80-100% again leaving other almost unused again. I don't know if it's source of problem anyway and how solve it.

AMD FX4100
8GB RAM
GeForce GTX660

31459 and Jeromba have you tried truning off show AI moves in I believe it is the game settings section of the options. Kind of stinks as you'll have to lok over the map to see where everyonwe moved to but it may help a bit.
But having said that this patch 9 has made my game end turns take a lot longer then before as well. Same with loading battles in, takes longer.

I would sugest getting a 4th generation Intel Core. I upgraded my PC from an AMD "quad core" to an intel i5-4400 and my Frame issues are gone

Orr an AMD 6300 x6 3,5GHz, which are now quite inexpensive...aound $125.00, or that neighborhood, and going down...saw one for $94 (somewhere), This ia a solid CPU that performs well with R2.
i have fx 6100 mines smothe but i have heard some amds work some dont guess i got lucky a few things you can try is go into device manager and disable the amd cards sound and just leave the base computers sound on this can some times save fps. use the mod 2 stop all agents. unlock cores but really i would say you are rubber ducked

Diff its not AI Moves related problem, I'm sure. It lags whole game even after quiting to menu and loading or starting new game.

I tried something. I copied game from steamdir to another dir, dloaded crack and it works smooth as ♥♥♥♥. I just tested it, I wanna play steam version, I wanna play MP but this sucks really. Pirated version works better then original. What am I supposed to do now if its not obviously problem of my rig but some steam/total war problem? I hope I won't get banned for this but I had to share it.

Have you tried that video memory setting in the game settings. Now that I think about it my issue may have started after I turned that on after I got tired of the constant pop up about out of video memory. Try turning that setting on or off.
