any point in building training buildings?
i never really bothered to buiuld the training buildings cause they only seemt o confer their bonus after they are built and for only units recruited in those regions. building space is limited enough to waste of things not making money, public order, or decreaseing squalor.

I never do. The bonuses cost a lot to apply to existing units. I would rather have the maximum number of full stacks and stick champions in the stacks that will see the most fighting.

I generally designate a province (my home one usually) a military province and have it focus on training really good troops so in italia I had a castellum (the one that improves heavy infantry) In Roma and then the legion barracks, armourer and blacksmith in the 3 other settlements. By the time they were all upgraded (along with pantheon, colliseum and religious buildings for public order) the legionaries trained there were incredibly tough, already level 4 veterancy and cutting through just about everything.

It's probably not advisable to specialise a province like that early on but when you get more land I think it's a good idea.

From what I've seen - unlike the smithing armor and weapon upgrades - the Training bonus can't be applied retroactively?
The only time bonus is conferable - is upon recruitment, right?
If true - that's enough to make them a point for style luxury - at least early to mid-game.

If you mean the buildings that improve armor and weapons of your armies, I think they are worth it. But rememer they work forr the entire province where they are built, and will also back-train any armies you move into the area, and not just for troops recruited there like it says in the tool-tips.

I've only played as Rome in this game, and I recruit all my armies there (in the Roman province), where I have built all sorts of barrackses and blacksmiths and what have you. Any stragglers/mercs I recruit elsewhere is sent to the region as soon as possible to be upgraded.

The capital-based training buildings don't really seem to be worth the effort.

If you build them in the early-game then your empire will develop more slowly. After you're a large empire, then you are probably at war with distant enemies, and you won't muster most of your troops so far from the front lines.

Perhaps if the bonuses were a lot more significant (double or more of their current values?), the training buildings might be worth it. But so far I just do not see the use, particularly when you consider the tradeoffs you need to make to attain them. (I.E. devoting research to unlocking them, cost/time to build, lost potential income/research/order/food, etc.)
