Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition

White textures, black squares & low fps
Hi,

I've recently upgraded my PC and I am now unable to play Rome 2 as I am experiencing black squares and white textures when i play on the battle maps. I also experience varying fps regardless of what settings I am on. Here is an example of what my game looks like on extreme. Any help with this issue is appreciated, Thanks.

My PC specs are:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770k CPU @ 4.5GHz
Cooling: Corsair H100i Hydro Series
RAM: 8192MB RAM
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB
Graphics Card: MSI AMD Radeon HD 7990 6GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
PSU: Corsair AX860 860W

Disable Cross Fire X on that 7990 & your problems should go away. There is no CFX support right now. :(
Yeah, I've already tried that but it doesn't seem to work. I've disabled it via Catalyst but it doesn't seem to stop using GPU2.

I went to catalyst control center, clicked on gaming -> 3d application settings -> added rome 2 as a 3d application -> scroll down to AMD CrossfireX -> click AMD CrossfireX Mode and select disabled. Then restart the game once you've done that and it should work. Although, this didn't solve my issue at all.

lower specs PCs can even run faster than what you have. You should be running it at worst at ultra with 50 fps with this rig.

Yeah I know, It annoys me as i used to be able to run the game with a 6950, and at 3.2Ghz and i could atleast run it on high with around 30-50 fps average. Now it just seems like I'm playing the game on a 8 year old rig, yet I'm not.

I think there is some problem with crossfire not disabling and there for gets negative scaling.

example. GPU1: 20 %
Gpu2: 20%

instead of

GPU1: 99 %

I managed to turn off crossfire and it doesn't use GPU 2 at all now, but it hasn't fixed the issue.

What driver are you using? Is it a beta driver?

I tried waht Redjohn has said and it seems to have fixed the issue I am getting. If i run the game in windowed mode it makes the black flickering textures and fps drops dissapear. Im unsure why this fixes the problem though.

Try rolling back to the last official driver instead of that beta driver for your GPU.
