Tips for Parthia?
Hey guys and dolls,

In all my years of playing this series I've never actually played a faction like Parthia. Almost all of my games I've gone for typical western European style heavy infantry with cavalry as minor part of my army kind of factions.

I want to finally break this habit and try something new. So Parthia it is. But obviously I have no experience with this kind of faction so I would very much appreciate any advice you guys have to offer.

Check out guides there is i think called Guide to Rome 11 Factions has a 34 gold star rating it lists all playable factions .The Parthia one is great on armies.Play some custom battles with them to get the feel.

Early start you can easily spam large armies with cheap Eastern Spearmen and five slingers to deal with cavalry. You can consider putting in one heavy unit of infantry or cavalry but the latter may only be useful on harder difficulties.

Move East and take MERV important settlement then smash Baktria as the settlement gets trade bonuses. Move south and get a port so you can get sea trade. Then move North and swing around the top of the campaign map capture all those weak Nomadic type kingdoms then Take on Bosboran Kingdom Black Sea Move South and attack Pontus and then West to take on the Greek States. You will have a ton of money by then and have surrounded the Seleucids and the Eastern Factions. Next Victim should be Egyptians-get Alexandria and Memphis-Huge trade and food bonuses. Now you are ready to move into Seleucid and the East pick them off one by one. Pike are useless against your horse archers they will be slaughtered.

Declare war on Parthava on turn 2, not turn 1 as they *always* break their satrapy with the Seleucid on the inbetween of your turns. Make your army mostly horse archers and slingers at first and you should dominate them. Then turn your attention east and take Baktria and Merv. From there swing south to the sea and push west towards the Seleucids and whatever satrapies they still have. For armies you almost need to flip your thinking - heavy on missiles and cavalry, naturally missile cavalry as well. Don't use horse skirmishers, and don't use any infantry if you can help it until you get Parthian swordsmen. They just aren't worth it, and once you have Parthava's lands you will have so much money you won't need to worry about costs.

Grab the silk road. Outspend your neighbours. Ally with the northern tribes - conquering their massive territories isn't worth the effort. Head west to Selucia. Then you have a choice, east through Turkey and Greece or south through Arabia and Egypt. By that point, your steamroller is fueled up and you can do as you please.
