Rome II Freezing on Battle Load Screen

Rome II works fine in everything and loads phenomenally when in the campaign but whenever i try to load into a Battle, whether its a Custom Battle or a Campaign Battle, the game decides to freeze the load bar on like 0-1%. If anyone knows why this is happening please let me know i have reinstalled the game and deleted the Rome II file inside AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Rome2. (edit) As a side note i can run the benchmark fine on high settings and have around 175 fps so i dont think it is that the graphics are too high but who knows.

Had the same exact issue some time ago, I haven't retested this yet but I might try and give it a go. The only way I ever fixed it was to totally uninstall my GPU from Device Manager and reinstall the driver for NVIDIA via install package & NOT GeForce Experience. Not sure how the AMD side fares.

Ugh... this is happening to me as well on a brand-new PC... I really don't want to have to try reinstalling drivers just to get this game working.

Same issue, it just started 3 days ago. Had a campaign working perfectly up until then. I updated windows, only thing I can think of.

Thanks homie, I managed to fix it earlier by doing this. I just deleted the whole Rome 2 folder out of the Roaming/Creative assembly folder and did a fresh reinstall. you'll lose your settings and such but yeah it worked.

Possible solution to freezing in custom and campaign battles
First of all, if you have saved games copy and paste them into another folder outside the game folders before continuing.

- The first way is to delete preferences and cache data (explained below).

DELETE PREFERENCES AND CACHE DATA

Try going to C:\UsersTUNOMBREDEUSUARIO\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\[NAME OF TOTAL WAR GAME] and delete the following folders:

army_setups

battle_preferences

fx_cache

ui_cache Scripts

Once you have done this, start the game (the first time without mods). If the game works, everything went well. If the game keeps freezing or freezes again in the future and this step does not work anymore, we will go to the second step: Complete special reinstallation.

COMPLETE REINSTALLATION

Step 1

Delete the Total War folder (It's in Appdata. If you can't find Appdata, it might be hidden; so you should be able to find it with Ctrl+F.

You can also go to the Control Panel and make all files visible).

Step 2

Close Steam and go to C:PROGRAM FILES (X86)\STEAM and delete the following: APPUPDATESTATS.BLOB and CLIENTREGISTRY.BLOB

Step 3

Restart, reopen Steam and let it restore the files.

Next, right click on the game name in the Steam Library. Choose “Properties” > “Local files” > “Verify file integrity”.

This may take a few minutes.

Try to play the game when it finishes.

If you can't, go to the next step.

Step 4

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steamworks\Shared\CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010

INSTALL DXSETUP.exe

Step 5

Restart.

Re-open Steam (it will refresh) and now re-verify your Total War game files.

For more information, I leave the web of total war where they explain better all this. It is the spanish version but you can activate the ones in your language or use a translator. I hope it helps you. Best regards

Anyone find a fix for this or is this a windows 11 problem? Literally tried everything above and still the same result, battle loading screens don't load and freeze my pc. I have a brand new pc so I don't have any "major" problems like some ppl are saying it might be.

i completely and 100% fixed my issue by just deleting battle_preferences every single time I close the game lol.

Yeah that didn't work for me, tried every suggestion so far with no luck. Hopefully it's the windows update and they send out a new one soon to fix this. I heard ppl are having issues with other games with the wins update as well.
