Fix long loading times?
I have a bunch of mods i don't want to play without, and load times are sometimes absurdly long, i might have to wait 10 minutes just to get into the campaign, and from out of a battle. Naturally, this makes it hard to play the game, having to wait forever

They are pretty long but not that long. You have an SSD right?

Task manager seems to show that i do have one

The game files are installed on an external USB drive, does that affect it?

Yeah, that'll be it. Install the game on your SSD instead.
External USB drives aren't for anything resource-intensive like games. They're just for storage.

I thought my 30 second campaign load times were bad. Jeez.

Well ♥♥♥♥. I am always out of space so most of my games are on the external drive. I don't play much "new" games so even if there was a drop in performance, i probably just didn't notice

Is it a USB drive (i.e., a USB stick) or an external drive (e.g., external HDD/SSD)?
USB drive = definitely not for gaming. Terrible, terrible performance.
External HDD = not for gaming, but probably fine, just performance won't be very good.

You can try copying over your mods from the steam workshop folder into Rome 2's data folder, as described here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/totalwar/s/FUTZOetGzv

It dropped my load times from 3-4 minutes to about 1-2 minutes, but my files are on an SSD and not a USB

Also if you download mods manually, and not have them subbed on Steam, can cut your load times by 2-3 times.

You can even sub them on Steam, copy their folders somewhere, unsub from steam and then manually place these mod files into your Rome 2 data folder to have same effect.

the main factors that are going to affect your loading times are the transfer speeds of your memory. this would be your hdd/ssd and your ram. using an external drive is bad for 2 reasons. 1. the transfer speeds of external drives tend to be quite slow, and 2. the usb ports built into your pc can limit the transfer speeds, even if the external drive is capable of high speeds. also check your ram though, if your reaching 100% memory usage while loading, then it's the culprit.
