I do think that they overhype it a little bit. For Me, DEI is a longtime dream come true. It makes my TW experience feel more like a paradox game but not as brain numbingly boring. I can tell, through my initial gameplay of the two that 90% of people will never launch DEI again after 10 maybe 20 hours max. It's way too hardcore and most people will never beat a very hard let alone normal campaign as a non rome/carthage faction. it's best to leave DEI to those that have been playing total war their entire lives like Me.
Well shills implies that content creators are somehow getting paid by the mod team for promoting DEI. As far as I know, the DEI team is all volunteer, as no one actually buys the mod, but just downloads it for free.
The DEI mod is amazing IMHO; the population and reworked morale mechanics add a layer of depth that I’ve found lacking in all other TW games. That said, the mod for sure isn’t for everyone. I consider myself a veteran TW player and I struggled in my first campaign as Rome (normal difficulty). The game is rewarding when played well, but will punish the player if played inefficiently.
