Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition

Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition

Why the DLC "Rise of the Republic" has so many bad feedbacks?
I like history, and the Italian history with the rise of Rome and the Italian wars that created the Roman Republic is one of my favorite chapter of history. I'm really tempted to get that DLC, but when I see the rate, it's avenger.

Can someone briefly explain why this DLC has such a bad reputation? Thanks.

I only heard good stuff about this DLC.

And personally, for me it was the most fun of all Rome 2 DLCs.
Good dlc. More events and special technologies.
Units are mediocre - yes, but overall One of the best DLC.
One gripe to be found in that campaign is that despite striving to depict Italic archaeology more accurately, the devs still failed to get the bloody Romans right, just like the makers of the original game (Grand Campaign, Caesar in Gaul etc.). Also some faction icons look like Easter eggs and the unique faction mechanics although accurate and kinda useful are not very fleshed out, as in there is never a neccessity to use them unlike in real life. But those are the only issues I can think of and none of it is any worse than in the rest of the game, while the remaining 95% of content in the campaign is absolutely bloody brilliant. This campaign actually makes the Etruscans look and feel like actual Etruscans complete with imposing urbanisation and an obscenely complex economy. A blissful add-on, very good.
Rise of the Republic is one of the best DLC campaigns for this game. People dislike it because the beginning as Rome is a little harder than other campaigns. If you want an insane challenge, try playing Rome in the DEI mod for RotR. Hardest campaign I've ever played in my life.

A lot of love was put into that campaign by the developers (CA Sophia), but personally I found it a chore to play because AI aggression (and cheating) was set to 11. I found it too much of a grind beating one AI stack after another with seemingly no consequences for their innumerable defeats. Then there are the agents....
I tried Rome a couple of times, the Etruscans and one of the Greek factions in the south, but again found it too grindy for my taste. It's funny because I loved the WRE campaign in Attila, but not this DLC despite some similarities in AI behaviour. I'll try its DEI overhaul one day, though. Always enjoy what the DEI team does.
the stuff just isnt that expanded upon which for me is the biggest issue.. i like variety above most things and this dlc aint it. ofcourse im on the edge of good and bad but i can see why the dlc is mixed for a couple of reasons. main one being lack or variety and mapsize also the time frame is just less intriguing to a lot of ppl i believe
Rise of the Republic is like the definition of variety.

Campaign is quite hard and people just expected more after CA suddenly started producing more DLCs for this old game in 2017/2018.

To me, it'a a good DLC campaign. Worth to play at least twice. Just wait for sale, it's not worth it the full price.
