specials
Spec Aug 31, 2014 @ 7:12am
Yeah mostly specials, Mollossian dogs are a great merc unit.
In early game, melee is the top for me. Later on, pretty much specials.
so what is the best heavy melee merc unit?

ionly use mercs as like a filler unit to take a city then instantly disband but melle mostly some archers spechil cost to much

I'm using themed mercenary armies with carthage, like iberian, greek, germanic, celtic.

Peltasts - good but short range.
Companian Cavalry - very good but sluggish.
Veteran Hoplites - great, very tanky.
Molossian Dogs - good with 200 kills each unit, but can have ai problems.
Syrian Armoured Elephants - great, lots of kills and tanky, but completely un-fit.
Numudian Noble Cavalry - great, slighty sluggish but still manverable.
Leopard Warrior - good, fast runners.
African Elephants - ok, but being elephants is still good.
Noble Horse - good, but very sluggish.
Noble Fighters - good, but great in a shieldwall.
Briton Slingers - good, its not the best damage for slings, but not the worst either.
Celtic Warhounds - good, same benefits and problems as molossian dogs, lots of kills but ai problems.
Wolf Warrior - disappointed, even with shields up its too many losses.
Spearwomen - fine, they seem fast but do take losses.
Germanic Scout Riders - good, fast and nimble.
Longbow Hunters - good, not the best range but still good as missile infantry.
Iberian Cavalry - dislike, they are fast but then die fast.
Cantabian Cavalry - dislike, fast and die fast.
Lusitani Swordwomen - ok, lots of losses.
Scutarii - ok, they are just ok.
Balearic Slingers - great, best slingers ingame.

Haven't tested the following yet but plan to, Sabean Archers, Kushite Shieldswomen, Thracian Warriors, Thracian Cavalry, Thracian Peltasts and many more.

Hope that helps.

Sparta has a great chance to expaned into Athens and Ephesus to recruit
Cretan Archers and
Rhodian Slingers.
Put those long range killers with Ballista behind the Pikes and protect their flanks with Hoplites. It's like newb-cheat.
I like the noble fighters, esp as carthage.
