Re-train.
Ive been meaning to look this up for ages, what exactly is re-training all about? I never have the option to re-train anything.

If you don't know what I mean it is in the drop down menu when hovering over units in an army. You get disband, upgrade and then re-train.

Where is this used and for what purpose?

Thanks

Re-train allows you to upgrade your units to a better one. if you play as Rome and have triarii units they can be re-trained to veteran legionaries, while keeping their levels and speical training if they were trained in region with training fields.

it's hardly ever used and you'll hardly ever use it, so it's completly useless. unless you don't want any factions to take you by surpise, you can re-train and storm right at 'em with new units.

If you want to retrain/upgard your units get Talent Troades traits mod you upgard your general which in turn the units get extra armour plus others as well

Is that the only thing it works with? Triarii?
Because that honestly sounds like a good feature and if it works with other factions then I'm mad at myself for looking over it.
Levy pikemen into pikemen into I dunno, hellenic royal guard would be good, means I don't have to disband those freakin' idiot leves.

Sounds like the feature after you reserch the military reform as rome, where you can upgrade your hastati, principal and triarii into better units.

As far as I know its only rome that can keep upgrading its units like that.

You can also move an army into an area that has upgrade buildings and pay for 'retraining' that will give them the upgrade(s), like attack or armour.

Thats not what he meant though.

If you retrain to a newer unit you only need to be in a region you own.

Yea I thought it would be a good idea to re-train crap units into better units. Like taking Levy Freemen for Iceni and turning them into a Shield Band.

If it is only Rome who benefit however then why have the icon there for other factions? Seems odd.

I think its to represent the importance of the roman marius reform.

It's for other factions too, however that highly depends on the faction. Not all factions have units which could be upgraded.

Retrain is when you send them training to the barracks to upgrade them. After you have upgraded a building that comes with upgrades like +1 attack, you can train them in the barracks for better men. Note that this could be done on Rome 1 as it will show you the button "Retrain" in the city page. Not sure where you retrain in the Rome 2 campaign.

I know Carthage has some with their Late Libyan & Carthaginian Hoplites I think.
Sometimes I don't upgrade those left over because their upkeep may be the lowest there is and use them for garrison duty.
You can always give them an upgrade later, doing it all at once for a bunch of armies will raise that upkeep.
