Divide et Impera
This mod is not doing it for me. Even at "normal" level, every faction is way more powerful than mine and any given turn a massive fleet sails up with endless movement; chasing two separate friendly fleets that retreated, chasing them again and destroyed them, then turned and attacked my nearby town. All in one move. What is the point of making a game that an average player at "normal" level has no chance in hell?

I'm playing Alexander Campaign on VH & not having much trouble at all.
I guess it depends on location & resources.

Avoid naval battles until you have a strong navy yourself. Try to capture a city that has developed a strong sea port, like Athens and build your navy there. Until then only attack troop fleets that have little or no protection, and use ramming until you have ballista ships.

Once you get to know the mod, it gets easier to the point you might ask for harder difficulty submods :D

But it can be tricky at start if you dont know how stuff work.

We made this offical mod for new players, it makes start a bit easier and just adds on difficulty as you grow.

Thanks wjpower2003, your input was less than useless. You sound like some self-absorbed idiot who lives in his mom's basement and has no life or success outside of playing a game. Thanks for nothing.

I've played all the Total War games. I have both Rome and Rome II, and I have campaigned successfully in both. I played this at "normal", then dropped it down to "easy". Nothing easy about it. This mod seems to have a serious imbalance between AI forces and the players. I appreciate the helpful suggestions about play and the other mod. The others can crawl back into their holes.

With DEI it's really important at gamestart to establish and nurture positive relations with possibly dangerous states, and build up your economy as much as possible. Expect to lose and regain ground, and be extremely cautious with your armies and fleets, avoid leaving them unsupported. More importantly, don't leave them close to larger enemy fleets near end turn because I can GUARANTEE that if you keep your fleets at a reasonable distance from certain death, the enemy won't be able to catch up on a retreat. You need to take time to work on your economy and diplomacy, otherwise wartime will rear its head more often and from more directions than you need it to. Major wars that need you to maintain large high-quality forces are bloody expensive and can stunt your economy early. Sometimes it's even better to settle for multiple low-quality armies spread throughout your territory to hold the line in case of invasion while waiting to build up a proper economy to pay for a proper offensive army. Also avoid building a navy until it's absolutely critical because for the upkeep of even the worst naval vessels you can easily afford several land units to guard your coastal settlements instead.
Also check out the softcore submod, apparently it does a pretty good job at addressing some of the difficulty concerns.
Best of luck - and remember that Rome 2 mods don't start and end at DEI. There's plenty of other mods that take different approaches to different objectives if DEI isn't working for you.
Cheers!

The power balance that shows in diplomacy window doesnt reflect reality I guess. You can outsmart the AI in any battle, so fight the starting battles manually. Economy in DEI is a lot different from vanilla, use generals as governors and recruit as many governors as you can to boost economy and field more troops. Dont send armies to the sea without a proper fleet support because they're gonna get destroyed.

Also try starting as a strong faction, Rome is a good pick. If you're already starting as Rome pay Epirus for peace, kill the Etruscans and only then wage war on Epirus again for Magna Grecia. If Carthage declares war on you, take Sicilia and wait until you can raise a proper fleet (10-13 Quinqueremes and Quadriremes) and only then ESCORT an army to Corsica et Sardinia, dont forget to recruit 1 supply ship per fleet so you dont suffer attrition. If Carthage doesnt declare war on you, conquer Cisalpina before going for Sicilia.

DEI can be frustrating for someone whos just starting, dont give up and you'll eventually get the hang of it. It's an awesome mod.

Sounds like you might need to learn how to play or subscribe the softcore submod OP. I never did understand the urge to rush to the forum when frustrated to vent though. The cynic in me thinks low level trollery but will give you the benefit of the doubt.

I think you may have encounter a Pirate fleet, and this bastard are BS in DeI

They spawn with a (almost) full fleet of mostly late game ships and can travel like half the map.

I got tired of dealing with them so I just download a mod that got rid of them.
