Siege Battle Crashes
The game doesn't give an error code or anything it simply stops and drops me immediately into the desktop.
What I know so far:
1. I have read that guys say barricades crash the siege battles and they isolate this (I never use anything of the sort).
2. It seems to only happen in large scale sea sieges defense or offense makes no difference.
3. It may be only with water, I have yet to get a land battle to fail siege or otherwise.
4. I verified game integrity I will continue campaign as normal and see if it crashes from there (will update this forum by Monday).
5. I did have a mod related to units, but I deleted this mod and restarted a new campaign.
6. Also have not attempted to crash the game on custom battle so I will see if this is related to campaign.
7. All modifications I have been using for years without issue.
8. I'm making the assumption related to other forums of a similar issue that this has nothing to do with graphics settings, or mods.
9. I bench tested ram everything is good on the hardware side, and graphics drivers are updated.

I have a very similar error, except mine happens every time that I load into a multiplayer battle, or around 10 minutes after being opened. A lot of people have been getting crashing problems recently with the game, and I'm still looking to find what the problem is.

When your game crashes, I know you mentioned there's no crash message, but that the game immediately stops. I take it you mean the game immediately stops and closes down without any indication that a programme was just open? Check your Rome 2 folders for dump files, which if I remember rightly should be in C:, <User>, AppData, The Creative Assembly, and then the Rome 2 folder (that's just off the top of my head, so might not be exactly right). That's where I've getting my crash reports. If you have dump files, open the most recent one, and it will tell you the exception code. If you find one, please write an update with what the code was.

Sorry I've not really been any direct help, but it seems like this kind of issue is really common at the moment, with no easy fix. I'm just trying my best to collect any information I can, and give it to SEGA Support, or to anyone who seems to know the technical side or the game on any discussion threads.

I appreciate the idea, yes it crashes straight to desktop, no warnings, no messages nothing. Gonna give that a try too, partying tonight but will attempt fix on hangover tomorrow!

I do not see a creative assembly folder, what would it be nested under?

Sorry, I told you the wrong file path - it should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War Rome II

If you have any dump files, they will be in there.

Any examples of names for dump files? total war has a lot of sub files not sure what I'm looking for here? I appreciate the ideas.

If you sort by file type, it should seperate all files in the Total War Rome II folder. Another good way to look for them is to sort by date modified, because as the crashes are recent, the dump files should be on the top of the list. An example of mine is called rome2_19728_crash_2021_6_3T21_47_18C0.mdmp

Just to say again, you're looking in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War Rome II - once you're here, the files you're looking for should have a name in a similar format, and it should be .mdmp file

Thanks. If you have the same exception code as me, I am currently speaking to SEGA Support, and I have given them my dump file and exception code. I've been trying fixes that they've sent, and keep telling them what isn't working. If I get told something that works, I'll let you know. Send SEGA Support a ticket too, and if you have the same exception code make sure to mention it explicitly to them. Hopefully the more people that come forward with this error code, the better our chances of them fixing it will be.

I got a different crash code and its not reporting the same crashes. At the moment I'm testing to see if deleting some files in app data per CA's guide will do the trick.

OK reporting back so far it seems that this has worked: - Open a windows explorer page and copy paste in the top bare the following:

%AppData%\Roaming\The Creative assembly\ [NAME OF TOTAL WAR GAME]

- If you have any saved games and/or replays that you don’t want to lose, copy/paste them in another folder out of the game folders before going on.

- Follow the Delete Preferences & Cached Data first (see below)

- Follow the Clean Reinstall second if the previous step didn't solve your issue

Some behaviour including Freezing at Launcher or Title, crashing and other types of graphical artifacing may be solved by eliminating some basic Appdata files, and the Steam files that may be telling that everything is fine when it isn't! (Keep in mind that you should have User Account Control OFF or you may run into some problems )

Delete Preferences & Cached Data

Try going to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\ [NAME OF TOTAL WAR GAME] and delete the following folders:

army_setups

battle_preferences

fx_cache

ui_cache Scripts

Hi. Thanks for the updates, I'll try it now. Sorry for not being too active over the last few days, I've been really busy in real life, and haven't been able to devote time to fixing problems with Rome II that I don't fully understand lol
