How to fix mod long load times?
Title says it all, I'm running an i7-6850k cpu, nvidia gtx1080 gpu, 32 gigs of ram and I have rome 2 on an SSD with plenty of extra space. I'm trying to run Radious, a couple graphic enhancers like HD water, and some extra unit mods like AUM. I started with around 40 mods loaded, but I've been lessening the amount as well as lowering my graphics, with no improvement. The game loads reasonably well with no mods, but I don't see a launch options button in the launch menu to change the game to Dx 11. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Help would be really appreciated, thanks!

Tell us your computer specs and times.Like press play,go through the film intro to ,pick faction ,to when you can start game.Go to thread 8th of Feb 2021,Dizzy loeuy thread.
Specs are listed just curious if that ssd is an m.2.

Unsure whether its an M2 or not, all I know is that its a 1tb SSD from around late 2016. Is there a way I can check?

yeah m.2 drives look like this.

Its ok though sata ssd's are still decent its just these things are fast. Next build look into one, you wont regret.

Ive been thinking about upgrading my PC anyway since its all from 2016 and no upgrades since, all of its getting old and my headphones are almost completely broken lmao, haven't found a pair i've liked since. Maybe I just need to upgrade my stuff in general. Is everything still super expensive or have prices dropped?

Oh yeah they are. Anything with a chip is pricey now as covid has driven demand through the roof.
I scored one of the last 2070's in my nation in nov last year just as they were driving the price down to clear for 30** series cards. which filled the price slot of the respective 20** series card but 3 months later add 500 bucks to that price due to scarcity and greed.
I hope my pc stays healthy till this changes as these prices make me wince.

Another thing that can make mods turn time longer is background scripts. Yes that will cause problems.

So I've tested Attila now, and I'm running a similar amount of mods with no issues whatsoever. What makes this game run differently to Attila? Should I just say f it and upgrade to an M2 SSD and get a CPU upgrade? I don't think my Graphics card is too out of shape considering I can run new games like RE8, RDR2, HLA, etc. without too many issues.

its a wise investment imo. As for difference between the titles would have to ask CA or someone that's looked under the hood of both games and knows the difference but I have barely played attilla as I took exception to some of its mechanics and is now my poormans medieval 3 with 1212 mod as CA refuses to make it.
That mod is a bit shallow on the campaign side of things atm and is a work in progress so "is a watch this space" mod for me right now.

Haha, I agree with you there for 1212 being my poor mans Medieval 3 too, a remake of Med 2 or anything along that line would be a god send. I'll start looking into a better processor since this isn't the first game thats been affected by it. Thank you for the help!

Make sure your mthbrd supports that m.2.

I have always had this problem, and I too run Rome II on an SSD (but with a Ryzen 2700x and RTX 2080). For me, the problem started when the mod location moved from the game's data folder to the steam workshop folder. Without mods, my game will load into a campaign in roughly 30 seconds. With mods it can range from 30 seconds to upwards of 5 minutes depending on how many mods I have activated. My own makeshift solution has been to 'compile' all the mods I like in one big mod using pack file manager. This way I only ever have 2-3 mods active and my campaign loading time of 3 minutes is tolerable, but terrible considering the 30 second vanilla loading speed.

I know a saving of a few minutes doesn't sound like much, but think how many times you load from battle to campaign in a total war play through, and you will realise how much time this saves!

I'll definitely try this then, I was wondering if the mod location may have had something to do with it. This should help with the Sebidee unit mods and the ones that add tons of extra units anyway that clog up the mod list.

Hey, I don't mean to bother you but how do you combine these mods using PFM? Do you use something else or is there a good guide on how to do this? I can edit stuff easily enough but I'm struggling on how to figure out how to say, combine all of the 4 radious mod packs into one single pack. I'll keep looking at it but if you know of a good guide or anything that would be amazing, thanks!

I have an M.2 SSD and have the same issues with Rome 2. Attila with mods, quick loading times. But as soon as I activate some mods in Rome 2, load times are horrendous. It's getting to the point where I no longer want to play Rome 2.

My specs:
Ryzen 4800H 2.9Ghz
GTX 1660ti
500 GB M.2 SSD
16 GB RAM
Win 10

Must just be something fun with how the game was constructed then. I'm going to try and maybe merge all the mods together into one massive file and maybe? that'll help. Haven't messed with modding rome in a couple years though so I have to retrain myself.

I have reinstalled everything so many times to try and fix the issue including reinstalling Windows. My previous laptop with terrible specs with a regular SSD in it had much faster loading times than with my new laptop.
