I'm currently playing (and enjoying) Para Bellum at the moment but there are issues with public order and money which I can't work out the reason for - probably a bug or something. The UI is also clunky and unintuitive because in order to change a general/admiral's retinue, you have to go to the character/family screen whereas on DEI you can do it on the campaign map by clicking on the character.
A good analogy would be that DEI is gourmet cuisine and Para Bellum is fish and chips. Both satisfying but in different ways.
I downloaded it at the same time as Para Bellum but haven't tried it yet, will have to once I finish my current campaign on PB.
I love the supply line reform system, it adds an extra dynamic to the game that makes you have to plan ahead and be more cautious.
Although Para Bellum does look interesting. Their UI designer, is just one of the best and most talented designers I've ever seen, all the UI he created, the buttons, the icons, the images, the units, the shields, omg, everything looks AMAZING and with such beautiful attention to detail. It's also got pop systems, and a few other standard tropes we expect. I haven't played it very much, but I really do want to give it a try.
That's what I can give you one either of those mods.
Stainless Steel is one of those all time great mods, along with Rome Total Realism, and Europea Bararorum.
DEI is a mod i try to get into but cant stand it, the AI cheats to such a degree that makes you question the rules of the game, Battles are also stupid cause the mod is balanced around Ultra unit size(which has bigger units then the regular game) which makes the game a lagfest on huge 40vs40 battles(and even worse if they are in cities).
Para Bellum doesnt do such extreme changes and is a more stable experience.
