I don't usually play cavalry heavy factions ( because I'm rubbish with them) but I had quite a bit of fun with the Sassanids (though it's been a while, so don't remember everything I did. :spacemonster: )

The way I played them was to take advantage of their cheap early infantry supported by a small number of elite units in each army to take to the field with strength in numbers (basically fielding as many armies as Imperium allowed, but each was relatively cheap as they were mostly cheaper infantry.) My plan was to then bring in more elite units when I had the tech, infrastructure, money to do so, though I didn't get that far as I'm terrible for grasshoppering between factions.

You have quite a few Satrapies and can create more, allowing you to levy units from those factions (if you aren't aware, an army in a region belonging to one of their client states or satrapies can recruit a small number of units from that faction's roster each turn. It's semi random - a random selection of units recruitable in that province, but can be useful. Basically like mercs but without the hefty upkeep.)

I built my economy around Commerce and Trade, as the reduced Banditry and bonus to Commerce from the Eastern Empires culture trait, and the minor diplomacy bonus from the faction trait all work quite well together.

Hope that helps.

All the Best,

Welsh Dragon.
