all save files corrupt?

So before emporer edition i had an issue that stopped me playing this game. All my save files, (Yes, all of them), became corrupt. I tried to load them and the game just crashes about 10% through loading. Well, this exact same thing has just happened and it's pretty game breaking, 4 saves 2 on the same day at 120 turns, and 2 others at 100 and 80 turns each. All just gone. No mods, no updates, just overnight save file death. Anyone have any experience with this or am i doomed to never complete a Rome 2 save...

Old saves aren't compatible with the new systems in patch 18. Revert to patch 17. There are instructions in the forum for how to do that.

Also, since you're crashing, not complaining about food issues, I suggest that you follow the instructions CA provided in the sticky thread discussing a solution to issues in the new DLC... follow all of those steps even though you say you never had mods. Some of the steps will help with other potential causes of crashes.

Once you've completed your patch 17 campaigns, I suggest updating to patch 18, following the steps in that sticky to prepare your system for that update, and playing with the new features in future campaigns.

I had the exact same issue.
What Migz has said is correct, i did more to solve the problem but maybe less is necessary.
Basically the game doesnt recognise the old saves in its new config so you have to make it like it was.

I backed up saves, did a full uninstall, removed mods, deleted appdata.
Then did a clean install, rolled back to version 17 then reinstalled my mods (this step was 100% necessary for me)
copy saves back into appdata and they should load.

Btw SEGA were not very useful for me, gave me some of these steps but they told me my game saves were corrupt and id have to start again.

Yeah i got it sorted, contacted sega and they didn't help. I tried everything in the book except reverting to version 17 and i think the appdata folder replacement worked. Glad to have my saves back to say the least.
