Trade guide? How do I get commodities to trade??
Sorry, I try to look up this, cause I dont want to look stupid out here, but am at a loss. Saw some YouTube vids where nation was getting 2000/turn on trade, and I said "what, how to do that". Am playing as Iceni, dont see any items to trade, nor how to get em. Do they have to be natural resources? If so, dont see any on map.

Also dont see any guides, is there a good one anywhere? thank you!!

Basically certain minor (aka unwalled) settlements have a special resource building instead of the normal minor settlement building.

e.g. If you're the Iceni, your neighbours to the west the Demetae have a Gold Mine in Moridunon, and the Brigantes to the north have Leather in Eborakon. And if you were to play Egypt, you have two Grain resources in Aegyptos province alone.

Not all resources can be traded, but each resource has an effect, often (though not always) faction wide, such as creating food or increasing public order, so it's worth getting your hands on some of them.

As for how you make lots of money from trade, in diplomacy you can establish trade agreements with other factions. To do so you need to have a direct route between your capital and theirs, either by land (across your regions and their regions, but not third party regions) or sea (from your capital to your port, across the water to their port and then from their port to their capital.)

Trade agreements improve over time, so if you've been trading a long time you'll be making more money than if you just started trading with that faction last turn.

You don't have to have any trade resources to be able to trade, though the AI may be more willing to trade if you have something they don't. (The AI can be very mercurial when it comes to treaties, especially trade agreements, so it's worth thinking what's in it for them when making an offer.)

It's also worth getting as many trade agreements as you can early on, especially with factions who aren't in your immediate area so you won't be fighting against them soon, which is why I will usually recruit a small navy early (Admiral's ship + 1 other ship, which stops the Navy disbanding when the Admiral dies) to go out and find as many factions as possible. It's quite possible to be trading with half the Mediteranean even as someone like the Iceni, which can bring in quite a bit of money.

As the campaign progresses it's better to rely more on internal sources of income (as trade routes can be blocked, raided or cancelled either by choice or because a settlement changed hands and there is no longer a route,) but early to mid game they're a useful source of wealth to fund your empire.

Hope that helps.

All the Best,

Welsh Dragon.

It depend of ressources that you produce in your own cities.

Iceni have trouble ,it pays as Welsh Dragon wrote to get gold and leather resources.Factions are more ready to trade with you.Remember sometimes the cultural thing comes into play. All resources are trade able ,thats why they are called resources.
