Thank you for the reply, i have actually tried all suggested, in one of the matches no units were on the walls as i tried to hold the center of town, tried to toggle the auto fire, tried to issue orders, tried to click on halt and issue new orders, but nothing helped, sat there just like ducks...
As a workaround to actually using the bugged siege-engines effectively, if you go into the siege-engines with the 'cinematic camera' mode, you can aim and fire them manually. By default I think the hotkey for doing so is the 'Insert' key (which can be changed in the options at the bottom of the 'Battle' hotkeys).
Manually aiming and firing the siege-engines allowed me to actually effectively use the buggy siege-engines, as the target-ground workaround was still a bit finicky and a bit of a nightmare to use.
