Barbarian Siege Defence Weapons not firing
Hello Guys,

Yesterday i was in turn 50 something in a Multiplayer campaign where i play as the arverni and my friend plays as Rome. anyways, the public order was critically low in suebia for me and that resulted in a slave uprising who immediately attacked my city.

I was quiet sure that i could win the siege since i had a decent garrison (10 units) + there were ballistas and stuff on the wall.
now, when the battle started my siege defence equipment would not fire a single shot!!!! they would just sit there and watch as the hordes of enemies are marching towards my city walls!!! they just did nothing. in result i lost the city because i was relying on the siege equipment to soften the enemy units before they are engaged with mine.

fun enough, in the same turn someone else attacked an another walled city, same situation and the siege equipment just sits there and watches. needless to say i was frustrated to lose two cities in one turn in the same exact scenario due to the same exact bug!!!!

anybody has any input on that ? shares the problem ? has a solution ? because its very game breaking for me.

Now, i was all the time outside of the loop of female generals and all that has been going on about it and i chose to igonre the entire thing with handling the situation.
but after this i have to say the following:
why would you focus on adding female generals and fighting your fan base instead of fixing such an obvious bug ?! did anybody even test this ???

a list of other bugs i am facing with this multiplayer campaign:

1- sometimes the game refuses to Resume the campaign as host and i have to shut the game down then start again for it to work
2- the game crashed on me in the past 2 years i guess like twice or three times, while in this campaign it has crashed 4 times in a week already!!!
3- the defense bug above
4- sometimes the UI appears/disappears with turns and stuff.
5- sometimes during the siege the troops are not manning the walls correctly and end up running in weird shapes and ways instead of walking 2 meters to the front and man the walls
6- some gaul factions would not join he confideration even though they are very weak, at wars with others, have no advantage whatsoever and offered a bribe of literrally 15k!!!!!!!!!!!
7- some areas no matter what you do for them the public order never gets down and suddenly you find them happy in the next turn or preparing to revolt in the other!

I have been putting up with this for a while but when i reached the point of the siege defence i just can't handle more of this!

another bug i faced while playing the historical battle of teutoberg forest, after the cutscene of reaching the first checkpoint, the screen is black. pitch black, all i see is the flags of my troops and the arrow of where to lead them. it also sometimes loaded and other times didn't.

so CA is it worth fighting the community over female generals and even implementing a nonhistorical point in a "Historical" title rather than fixing all this ?

Thank you and sorry for the long post. google potato XD

I've noticed that if you place your squads directly on top of siege equipment, I think the collision can prevent them moving to change the angle of fire - avoid placing your units on siege positions until the last minute, so they can keep firing. Also, sometimes a piece of siege equipment seems to get focused on trying to fire at something it can't actually hit. Try giving it orders to attack something else, or hit "stop" and then turn auto-fire back on and this often works to get the targeting working properly again. Definitely agree this stuff is a bit glitchy though and could certainly use some fine tuning!

Thank you for the reply, i have actually tried all suggested, in one of the matches no units were on the walls as i tried to hold the center of town, tried to toggle the auto fire, tried to issue orders, tried to click on halt and issue new orders, but nothing helped, sat there just like ducks...

I know this is kind of resurrecting an old thread, but I still ran into this bug recently with my fixed defensive Celtic siege-engines not being able to fire, so it appears to still be unfixed.

As a workaround to actually using the bugged siege-engines effectively, if you go into the siege-engines with the 'cinematic camera' mode, you can aim and fire them manually. By default I think the hotkey for doing so is the 'Insert' key (which can be changed in the options at the bottom of the 'Battle' hotkeys).

Manually aiming and firing the siege-engines allowed me to actually effectively use the buggy siege-engines, as the target-ground workaround was still a bit finicky and a bit of a nightmare to use.

Its crazy how it is still broken.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
