That's a good question, I'd say Tylis for sure, Macedon is not that easy either, Epirus probably, then I have no others idea, I haven't tried them all sadly

Those are actually described when selecting a faction.

PS: just look on the page & you'll find it.

That's nonsense though, apparently Sparta is a hard faction and it's maybe the easiest

Tylis, odrysians, getae, ardiaei, nomads and suebi are the hardest, Macedonia and Epirus are among the easiest in the game especially epirus lol

I would agree that the Pirates & Raiders DLC factions + Getae are the hardest to get going – I have had no success. With the possible exception of the Ardiaei they're all crippled badly in some way or another. Suebi just have a hard start but once you deal with the Boii you can start rolling.

Nomad factions are also tough to get started.

The easiest factions are almost always the largest factions, with the exception of Carthage.

Also, nah, Lusitani can be very good and should absolutely wreck Carthaginian factions in the early game. Yeah, oathsworn-heavy stacks can be troublesome in the mid-late game but those aren't super easy for anybody.

Ohh...forgot Carthage. Unless you build a standing army at Carthage and focus on holding what you have, you can loose it by the 3rd turn! lol

Good mention, bbolto.

;)
carthage are piss easy because they have elephants as generals i can complete them on legendary no problem

Looking at your reactions in this thread: why ask, if you know everything better? :-/

Does not matter, I am off. Good luck.

I would guess nomads and pirates. The nomads are actually really good, once you get used to them. They are tough initially because they play totally differently than everyone else in the game, and you have to relearn how to play when you switch from them to someone else or vice versa.

Nomads are tough initially because you're up against other nomads at first and there is no way to win those fights cleanly (unless, I guess, your micro is just amazing) and with your economy not too great either it's a struggle. Infantry, however, is pretty much just meat no matter what it is. As for ammo, you get tech upgrades in campaign that increase your ammo capacity/ effectiveness so that becomes less of an issue. Furthermore, royal and noble horse archers double as strong melee cavalry so if you need to clean things up after dumping all your arrows you can do that. Even armored horse archers are serviceable in that role, so no, you don't need the shock cavalry (though that can be fun sometimes).

Yup, I find that with the Massagetae, my best bet is to pick on Baktria. With the Scythians, I go after the barbarians to the north, after I secure Armenia. I usually try to get the level four units right away, because like you say they are pretty much medium melee cavalry. The Saka cataphract horse archers are ridiculous in melee. I recommend not using any infantry at all, except to run ballista.

I think that the main issue for new players is that they have a tough time because they fight totally differently from conventional factions. I find them to be really, really strong-- but I use the all of the time. The pirates, on the other hand, have nothing that attracts me. I might try them more down the road, but it will be way down the road.
