You need to capture Athens.

To trade you need to have a direct link between your Capital and their capital, either by land, ports, or by land and ports. This doesn't work with ferries, such as the one Sparta has connecting them to Epirus.

So, the only land link to Sparta is Athens, and the only land link between Sparta and a port, is Athens.

So basically, if you play Sparta, you need to take Athens or accept you will only ever be able to trade with Athens.

Welsh Dragon.

You should have your capital connected to your port by land. In case of Sparta that means you have to conquer Athens, I think.

Athens = turn 1 murder. No diplomacy, they're in the way of the Spartan's future, quite literally.

You will of course have Eprius and Macedon banging on the gates in short order though. But superior pointy sticks and rock throwers can soon sort that out.

So, playing my current Pergamon campaign and this happened...

Made me think of this discussion. :reexcited: Seems there is another way for Sparta to trade without taking Athens. :spacemonster:

Hah, kinda ended up doing that myself earlier in my campaign.

I moved to take Epirus and they shot around the top and went to Athens, repelled them but a similar thing could have easily happened.

Now Macedonia is all mine. Just one last Epirus fleet that's making me chase them around the map.

In another matter, Egypt seem to think it's a good idea to spam me about a military alliance........while they're at war with EVERYBODY.

Haha. I'm in a Military Alliance with Egypt, Bithyana and Rhodos, and Defensive Allies with Pontus and Knossos... Which is how I'm at war with 6 factions including the Kush of all people! And Pontus still want me to join their war with Cimmeria.

Ain't diplomacy grand! :reexcited:

It should be there a system that you can trade with other faction through Athens port by initiate diplomacy, i think this will fix the trading system when you cannot trade with other faction just because your capital get blocked by other faction or you don't have a port in your capital.

The Spartans have a trading port. It's just that the Athenians are too dumb to realise it's yours. Send the troops over and explain things.

Alternatively do the good ol total war tactic of abandoning your homeland and sailing to Britain.

Once rebels take Sparta you're free to trade with anyone with a port essentially lol

These issues have been 6 years, just after Total War Rome 2 came out but CA didn't care about it.
