Faction leader dying before having an heir

Yep, it sucks. It's in the grand campaign roman faction, with the Patrici, DEI mod (in case it makes a difference). So next turn I have a new family leader (well, he is the only family member actually) and there's a new Facyion leader from the Equites.

What am I supposed to do from there. Shall I kill the faction leader, can I control him ? It's my first playthrough since the ancestral update and I'm a little lost.

I believe DEI is based on elections, rather than inheritance.
Although don't take my word for it

Can't you just adopt someone?

Nope, strangely, I tried to adopt a guy who add half the autority of my leader but wasn't allowed to. Guess it's because he wasn't from the same senate faction,. If I understand well, I have to entice him first.

Yeah, you entice to your party with a higher cunning (than targets auth?) character, then can adopt if your authority is 2 more than their zeal.

if my faction leader dies I just get a new one?

If he has an heir, then the heir replaces him. If not, like in my case, then yes ; it seems you get a new one, from another party. But then again, I play with a total conversion mod called DEI. So I don't know if the same what happens in vanilla.

I meant the second thing, I had one faction leader and no other nobles(or whatever) and he died(♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ famine), and then I just got another guy that continued the dynasty as his own lol.
