Mods are useful.

If your expectation is that Rome and/or Carthage will be superpowers every game, you should know that that's not going to happen for balance reasons.

Stalemates like this are very common. You need to think very very very long term. I once had an issue where I was under perpetual invasion siege for 70ish turns, the stack repelled, regenned a bit, repelled again and on and on and on, I couldnt get ahead but I knew I had to hold out until my other legions had finished what they were doing elsewhere in the world so they could return home and thats how it happened. In my defense I was taken by surpise a stack escaped a city I was sieging somehow and then morphed itself into 2 stacks, it wasn't a game over issue but it did mean I was stalemated due to unforseeable circumstances.

OOh i wish that happened to me lol,,, but with the AI its like back n forth,, which i can see is different from before, when rome was steamrolled..i guess. Atleast rome isnt falling.. Even though the etrucans sacked rome twice.. the romans retook rome back ,, thankgod..
what difficulty u on??

Stalemates used to happen quite frequently in Rome1/Med2, even in Empire - due to the slow public order change; and as well as in Shogun 2.

Unfortunately I haven't really experienced that in Rome 2. I've even had the experience in Attila, once again, due to the public order issues.

Its been Decades since i played Shogun 1and Rome 1,, but my memories are indeed memorable.. I might go back just for nostalgia reasons... to see the features that were lost along the way...like gifting regions..
Medieval 2,, i must admit , is the most ive ever played in totalwar.. though i dont think i will go back.. most memorable time in med 2, was having a citadel in the middle East besieged by 4 mongol armies at once... the citadel was fully equipped with archers that could deploy stakes at the gates and behind walls..what a laggy battle but boy was it fun,,,

VH/Hard on Campaign/Battle always been hesitant about legendary because it's not noticably harder but the save restrictions means bugs can ♥♥♥♥ an entire campaign which is just really unfair.

Rome has never amounted to anything in my Grand Campaigns I even remember Rome being ruled by some African tribe at one point, heck sometimes the etruscans beat them.

Just play with DeI, in my recent campaign Rome became a superpower, it expanded quickly and had a huge military and it was a bit challenging to beat them as Carthage. They had entire Italy, Southern Gaul, Illyria, Belgica, and a small part of Germania (before the war with me) somewhere around turn 80.

The AI can't really play Rome properly because Rome is strong on the defensive and has so many nuances to their strategies. The number 1 rule for pretty much every barbarian faction that ever faced Rome was "don't let them get into formation". AI can't use testudo properly, they can't form squares or cohesive shield lines. It doesn't matter if it's Roman heavy infantry legionaries, levy spearmen or hellenic pikemen, the AI will use them all the same way.

That is my observation as well, the Etruscans seem more aggressive than Rome..
