Do Peltasts also serve as infantry?
What the title said, I'd like to know. :)

Depends wich ones, hellenic Peltasts can as they wear armor, Royal Peltasts are basically legionary peltasts.

As for the rest I personally wouldn't use them as infantry, especially not skirmishers or javelinmen.

Hmm, I play as Egypt right now and they do look like infantry, in Custom Battle they are even in the melee tab so Idk what I should mostly use them for

Personally I use Peltasts primarily as a missile unit first, then once their ammo has run out I use them as flankers or to fill any holes that need filling.

Royal Peltasts are amazing and can fill any role.

Bare in mind though that some hellenic factions(or is it all?) have a certain technology that changes peltasts to light peltasts which imo makes them useless, they lose all armor and become skirmishers.

They now work as a defensive infantry unit with a shield wall

petest are suppose to be gone and replaced with the thurophoi and thorax swords. heavy peltest in rome I.

medium and heavy infantry is their role :D
skirmishing hopliteesses! ;D
i think they shuld be a little better in vanilla but they are good.

they are just missing their phalanx formations. :(
but yerah thorax is heavy infantry and thourophoi are skirmishing then supporting the flanks of thorax or pikes. :) peltest... :/ were use for skirmising but are kinda slow to having armour.

Some are pretty capable melee units. Thracian and Royal peltasts are both good at melee.

Yeah, Royal Peltasts from Egypt are really good :cta_emo7:

Royal peltasts are pretty good line infantry units. Regular peltasts (not javelinmen) are okay in melee and sending them into the flank of an already engaged unit (once they're out of javelins) usually helps and doesn't get them instantly killed.

"Heavy peltasts" in Rome 1 = thureos spears in Rome 2 (look at the Rome 1 heavy peltast's description, it mentions the thureos shield as I recall)

Peltsts can be used to chase down routing enemy but if you use them in hand-to-hand combat they will take very heavy casualties. This makes their use as infantry uneconomical. As a commander, your first priority is preservation of force. Keeping the units intact lets them gain experience so in the next combat they will be more effective. Don't throw away your men asking them to do things they are not equipped for, like using peltasts as infantry.
